to go for Poppy tonight. The reason there is one more to go is that I dropped one and thought she'd had it, but it must have got caught in my jacket cos it appeared next day when I put it on. I have to make an appointment to see the vet this week. Poppy is still wheezing but not as bad. I just hope she doesn't have to have any more tablets! I don't think either of us could go through another week of it. It now takes up to 1/2 an hour to get her to take one!!

Poppy is still wheezing and its our vet visit tomorrow morning. She's had two lots of tablets so far, so it will be interesting to see what the vet says for this time.

Just got back from the vet and YAAAAAY NO MORE TABLETS!!! Vet thinks it is narrowing of the trachea which is the problem and not deep down in the lungs and that Poppy will probably always have a bit of a wheeze, due to the poor start in life that she had. Vet is pleased with her weight and says she is almost up to what she should be. Weighed in at 2.27Kgs. She's got to be 6 months old now and vet said she/they probably won't be laying any eggs now until the spring which is a little disappointing. But then, at least they will all be up to scratch health and weight wise by then so we should get a good crop of eggs. Sighs of relief here! AND would you believe - there was no charge again. How cool is that?

Thanks OP, jellybean and suesbird. Big thanks to starlingqueen too, nice to hear that your chooks lay all through the winter. I don't suppose they lay as many?? Btw, how many chickens do you have in total, I'm sure you have said but I have forgotten.

Just 3 the same as you. They laid just as many eggs during winter as the rest of the year. Right now they are not laying at all as they are moulting. Not sure if they will lay any more as they are getting old now and Willow, the oldest, hasn't laid consistently for some time now. The other 2 are being nasty to Willow. They wont let her eat or go into the coop at night. I have to spread food all over the floor and supervise while they eat to make sure Willow gets some. I also have to supervise bed time so they let her in. They can be nasty at times these chooks, but it's all part of nature. As they get old they push the oldest, weakest out so they don't attract predators to the flock. It's almost like a sacrifice to keep the fox god away.

Aaaww I'm sorry to hear that about Willow. Is she ok in with the others of a night time then, I assume so otherwise you wouldn't put them together. Mine don't seem to be moulting now, so fingers crossed, but bear in mind this will be their first lay if they do get round to it.
