When Puck's on my finger at head height he tends to lean forwards to get closer to my face ... if I don't move him closer he has several times made a jump for it and tried to land on my lips If I hold him closer then he tends to try and groom my lip ... probably not great for him and hurts me I guess he'll realise he cant land there after a few more failed attempts - but any less painful suggestions? (not holding my breath on this one ) Cheers

Ozzie flies at my face too, but he is usually aiming for the top of my head. He isn't very good at coordination lol I'd say distract him with a jingly or shiny toy or maybe treats. Lip grooming by a budgie sounds very painful!

Having been bitten on the lip by Dumpling I can confirm it hurts - A LOT!

Our mouths contain a lot of bacteria which is bad for a budgie.you might find your budgie wants you to feed it.this is a way they like to bond with you.i can also say it does hurt when they bite your lip and also your nose.it makes your nose glow like rudolphs nose does. Sue

I know Sue. I was talking to him and telling him how pretty he was and he lunged at me. He wasn't trying to feed me it was a warning for invading his personal space!!

Try ducking your head, Matt, when he tries to jump on you. That way he might end up in your hair, rather than on your face. Yes it does hurt - both the nose and lip! How about offering him your fingernail to connect with? I used to do that with Smuge through her biting stage, when I wanted to get close to her but not bitten.

The same thing happens to me Mat, my bird jumped on my lip the other day and his claw sliced my lip so it's not the bite that hurts, it's da claw

Hi MattJ. I think Hezz's idea about connecting with a fingernail is a good one.
I can also confirm a lip bite hurts. I was pursing my lips to blow on Raspy's head to stop her biting my finger, when she turned around & bit my lip. That was me told!
