This is a video I made about my pal Chi-Chi, who I've been lucky to share my life with for the past 12 years. Hopefully in this video you can see what a joy he is in my life. I took him to the vet this past Tuesday and learned he has a cancerous tumor near his tail His tail may have to be amputated in order to save him.

While I am sorry that your budgie has a cancerous tumour, I am not sure that the forum is the right place to be trying to get people to hand over their hard-earned cash. For all we know, this could just be a scam. I would discourage people from contributing anything but their best wishes.

At the very least I simply wanted to share Chi-Chi's story and hopefully share some of the joy he has brought me over the years. I understand your concern, Hezz. I was worried some people might think it's a scam which is why I included the photo of Chi-Chi's tumor in the video even though it's kind of graphic. But I want to assure you that the money is not my main concern--it's saving Chi-Chi. The most I could possibly hope for is for everyones' best wishes and prayers. If he survives the surgery, I will try to post update videos so everyone can see how he's doing.

I will hold my hand up and say I thought your post may be a scam. One has to be very wary of posts like yours chibudgielvr. Especially from a complete newbie to a forum. I understand your intentions to be genuine and you have my best wishes and hopes that things turn out for the best.

He certainly is a lovely budgie and you have been blessed to have had so many years with him. Hard as it may sound, would it not be better to let him go than put him through surgery at 12 years old? Specially a surgery that will reduce his quality of life due to him possibly never flying again. Just my opinion and please don't think I'm heartless, it's just that we have to know, as pet owners, that part of our duties are to let them go with dignity and the least suffering we can manage.

ChiChi is a wonderful little budgie. I can see from the video how much you love him and how much fun you have had together. My thoughts and prayers are with you both.

Im so sorry about little ChiChi, i too have a 10 year old budgie with a large tumour, although not cancerous. I am maintaining him and caring for him and he is still very happy. I have been advised not to have it removed because it is very large and because of his age and although he is very dear to me i would have to think twice about putting him through surgery, even if it was an option, at this time in his life. When and if i think he is suffering in the slightest with it i will let him go . I admire you for giving ChiChi a chance and i wish you all the best with the op and hope for a good outcome. Please do let us know how he gets on.

OP, I totally understand. I joined the forum because I didn't know where else to turn. I thought a budgie forum would be the best place to meet other budgie owners and get input from people who have been in my shoes. It's only smart to be wary of me since I'm a newbie. The only way I can really prove myself is to become an active member here. Honestly I wished I had joined years ago. It's so amazing to be in the company of so many people who care about budgies!! Thanks for your kind wishes. starlingqueen, for days I have been debating whether I should put him to sleep or put him through surgery. You wouldn't believe how much I have tossed and turned about this decision. The reason I wanted to try surgery is because Chi-Chi is perfectly healthy besides the tumor-he's chirpy, active, good appetite, all around he shows no signs of his age. I feel like he has years left in him. Right now he is suffering from mild discomfort - he constantly is picking at the tumor and the feathers around it. And I hate seeing him like that. Honestly sometimes I'm not sure if I'm making the right decision. I've never gotten the chance to make this decision before-my other 2 budgies died of tumors but I didn't have the option to save them. Their tumors were too far developed by the time they became noticeable. I don't think you're heartless. I really value what you have said because the same thoughts have crossed my mind as well. budgiefriend, thanks for keeping us in your prayers. I really want the best for Chi-Chi. I hope things turn out alright... skysmum, I'm sorry to hear about your bird as well At least for right now he is still happy and not suffering. Enjoy your time with him, make every day with him special! I will let everyone know how Chi-Chi's surgery goes. Thanks for the support and kind words.

It's a hard thing to have to consider and I admire you wanting to help Chi Chi. When all is said and done,if you feel he is happy and would benefit from the surgery then that is your call. Only you know if he is happy and not in pain I hope he comes through it as happy as you have made his life up to now and does have many more years ahead. Would the vet let you pay weekly or monthly until it's paid?

chibudgielvr I have edited your post as we do not like people to ask for money on the forum. There are many kind souls here and we would not want anyone to take advantage of their good natures. I do hope that your budgie will be okay and I feel for you and him. Especially having lost my share of budgies to tumours.

Marianne, I assure you I am not trying to take advantage of anyone. If it would make you comfortable, I can delete this post. I don't want anyone to get the wrong impression of me, and now I'm feeling kind of uncomfortable about the whole thing.
starlingqueen, yes, I believe the vet will let me pay in installments. Which makes it all a little less overwhelming. Thanks for the good wishes for his surgery. I am willing to try anything for him.

I would like to think the vet would only do the surgery if it would benefit your bud. Would his tail grow again? It's a very hard decision and I am not sure what I would do. Good luck with it either way, it's so hard especially after 12 years

ffiscool - Nope, his tail feathers will be completely gone forever :/ I believe the surgery is actually removing part of the tailbone. It will impair his flying capabilities, but the vet leads me to believe that he can live a happy, relatively normal life after surgery. And he seems confident Chi-Chi will be around for a while yet if he can defeat the cancer. It's definitely a difficult decision after having Chi-Chi for such a long time... I know the surgery will be stressful for him and adjusting to his new life without a tail will be difficult too, but I'm hoping he can fully recover and get back to being his happy, playful self

I am sure that you will decide what is best for ChiChi. Budgies are very good at adapting when facing a physical change. I too hope he will fully recover and enjoy more happy time with you. I'm keeping both of you in my prayers.
