When are you expecting the cage to arrive Nina? Will look forward to updates and pictures!

Another way you could transfer the buds is to take all the perches out of your old cage and just have perches in the new one. They would have to go in the new one then. Especially if you did the same with the food and water.

And here's me singing your praises, Hezz, for showing us lot how easy it is. I really thought that was the method. It is very easy, if the time and effort have already been put in. Nina freely admits Bert and Ernie are not the tamest of budgies .......... don't think that is going to work in this case. Nina, I would probably set the new cage up as you want it, let the birds out, and take the old one away to be cleaned. Just don't bring it back for a day or two.

Definitely not tame...more feral I would say.

I've just seen this thread and I am thinking of buying a Piano 6 for my Squawk. Does anyone think it will be too big for a single budgie? I see you have/had this cage samwiseg I would value your thoughts? Squawk currently has the Vision M01 and whilst the size is quite generous I find that even with a few perches and 3 or 4 toys in it it can look a bit cramped. Squawk spends a lot of time in his cage so I think this may just suit him. I just want the best for Squawk even if it means my sofa will get pushed further towards the wall in the corner as Squawky Boy takes over the living room lol

I have the piano 6 and it is a good cage. But (I don't know if I was the person Hezz was referring to), when my original two moved into the cage from their small Hagen one, they didn't behave normally for about 2 weeks - didn't come out and didn't interact as much as usual. AND it was within days of this event that Berry started losing all his long feathers, which as you know eventually resulted in his diagnosis of PBFD. It may have been coincidence, of course, but I have always wondered if this stressor triggered the development of his disease. This is the doom 'n' gloom scenario, but if you have space and there is no particular rush, I would let them check it out in their own time and take it at their own pace.

Thank you birdguhl and I'm sorry to hear your budgie has PBFD. I hope Squawk is ok with the change of cage. He's a funny little thing, but has coped so well with numerous vet trips etc I am hopeful he'll adapt ok. How's Berry doing? Hope he's ok.

Thanks, Jane - I've just put a little update on Berry and the others under my 'Introducing Stanley' thread. Berry is a little star. It is now almost 3.5 years since he started showing symptoms and he has done brilliant. He lost his beloved Luee in July last year and I thought that might tip him over but no, he is still going strong. Here they are together - a fantastic couple:

Usually I have had two in it at a time but Phinny happily lived in it on his own for about 20 months, before Bezukhov moved in with him.

Sorry came in a bit late here Jane! It may be a tad overwhelming for him to start with but as Hezz always says you can never buy a cage big enough But do I sense what with a bigger cage in order....more buds in the future perhaps? Do tell! Oh and if you want tips on the size of and cleaning this monster cage, I clean it in the bath as it is the only receptacle big enough! LOL!

Hi samwiseg no more budgies in mind. I would love another one though, but I'm scared in case it doesn't work out again. I just don't have the room for a second cage to remain in my living room permanently. It's only about 11ft x 9ft, I live in a two up two down so rooms are fairly small. I have a larger dining room but the dogs are in there when I'm out. Squawk has his plastic friends for now, but you never know.

The piano 7 is huge and really is a 2 person job to move about. I had one and it was like a mini aviary. If Edward hadn't stripped a load of paint off I would still have it. You do need a few budgies to make it worth while.
