I have a hen in a breeding set up, she is in breeding condition and in and out of the nest box, she is feeding well and her mate is feeding her. Can anyone tell me why she has just started spending quite a bit of time hanging upside down, is this just hormonal behaviour .

The budgie version or elevating the pelvis, perhaps? Sorry, skysmum, besides just having fun, I have no idea whether this is a breeding phenomena or not.

It's not normal, she may just be playing or by hanging upside down she isn't allowing the cock to tread her.

Inca sounds likes she's going to be a handful.

Is she doing that just next to nest box entry hole, or everywhere is the cage?

Is she doing that just next to nest box entry hole, or everywhere is the cage? Its always around the nest box somewhere BB but not necessarily the box entry hole.

Some of mine do so around next box entry hole and it feels like something similar to what they do in the wild to check a tree hollow before nesting there.
