Wow, you are the lucky one. Very nice indeed. I love to see unusual birds OP. I get all the usual birds like Robins, wrens, bull finches, chaffinches and blue/great tits but to see a woodpecker is just thrilling, makes my day. When I saw the green woodpeckers I thought they were parrots at first, the green and red colouring was so different from the normal birds we get. There was an adult and a young one. The herons are pretty spectacular too. When we first moved here one flew past our back window and my husband said "I knew this place was out in the wilds a bit but no one said there were pterodactyls living here." They do look quite pre historic and soo big. I love birds and could watch them all day long, can't wait for the lapwings and curlews to arrive, they are late this year.

I would be in heaven having a garden like yours starlingqueen that attracted so many beautiful birds. Lucky you.

I do feel very lucky, we moved here to be closer to where my husband works but the birds are such a bonus. I think it's a shame when so many people just walk around with headphones on and heads down never looking around and seeing the world around them. They miss so much.

[/quote] I agree with your there Wendy. You are indeed so lucky to have all those lovely birds around you and like you I could sit and watch them all day. I'm not getting very many birds in my garden here, I think they must get very well fed all around me somehow. I've had to throw away the peanuts and the fat balls as nothing is eating them. But I do buy (it's delivered) kilos of mixed bird food and I think the mix must satisfy most birds and they all eat that instead of anything else. My feeder is a little obscured by the chicken run at the moment so I don't get to see what is visiting. I have however moved a bird table this side of the run and am starting to get robins and blackbirds visiting it (as well as the woodpigeons!).

Fantastic lucky you We had them and lots of other birds when we lived 'down south' but we don't get nearly as many (apart from sparrows/spuggies) here......I wonder if it's anything to do with the nuclear industry up here?

If the birds are bald and glow in the dark then it maybe the nuclear industry. Otherwise I think it might be a tad cold for the birds that appear down south. Maybe the penguins frighten them off.

Oh bother my OH is right again so annoying! Thanks for that though because I have wondered but now feel reassured.
