The forums moved! Right. So.. we've noticed our one budgie overheats sometimes. Especially when you're visiting with him. His little feet turn purple and get super hot and he pants and holds out his wings. No clue why. Tonight we actually ate dinner at the table, which is in the same room as the cages.. And we noticed they were all sitting on their perches chittering quietly except for him.. he was sitting there softly panting. He wasn't holding out his wings, and I really don't think he's ill since this random overheating has been going on for a while now. But any idea what the cause could be? I know one answer would be to take him to the vet to find out, but with the holidays right around the corner and them deciding to randomly raise the mortgage price... we can't afford it just this moment. After their chittering session, it was time to groom and everyone went itching and cleaning, and he was fine after that, no more panting. So it's not like it's a constant thing, which is even more confusing to me. Thanks for any help. <3

I would be worried and I would get him to a vet. He is quiet, he is panting, his feet sound like some sort of infection going on and he is holding out his wings. Have you tried cooling him down? Misting him with water? Are his poops different at all? Is he drinking more than usual? How old is he?
Someone with more budgie health knowledge will hopefully give you better advice, but to me there is a fair bit going on there, there could be some sort of chronic ailment causing his problems.

The overheating has been going on for more than a year. Just recently we noticed it's not just when he's around us. Though we were in the same room which is different... we're honestly thinking we're giving him a mild panic attack. He doesn't freak out and he's extremely loving, but he just overheats.
And he's actually usually the loudest. He's our oldest male. We're not sure how old he is, since we got him from petsmart, but he's at least 3 years old. And his poops haven't changed at all. He acts normal aside from the random over heating. He even flirts with his lovely lady still.

Stress/ panic/ uncomfortable in a situation will cause the birds heart to beat faster , this will cause the feet to overheat , once the bird calms down it will return to normal.

Ah, okay. Thanks barrie. I was thinking it might be something like that.
