Hi there and welcome to the forum It looks like your bird has a case of Scaly FaceYour bird (and all birds that are housed with it) will need to be treated for this asap using what we call Ivermectin 0.1% spot on drops or Stromectol as it is known in other countries. 1 drop per week for 3 weeks needs to be administered on the back of the neck directly ON THE SKIN (not on the feathers) All cage, perches, feed stations etc need to be cleaned thoroughly with disinfectant also. I do hope you can get some meds for your bird as it does look like she has not got it in its early stages but treated as advised your bird will be fine. Best of luck, let us know how you get on

Yes it is back of the neck between the shoulder blades. Reason for it to be placed here is so that it cant be reached by the bird to preen it off Try getting someone to hold your bird whilst you gently blow on the birds neck to part the feathers to reveal the skin then place one drop. Hope that helps

Now there is some limitations to using this, Ivermectin, on chicks, depending on their age; it may be the same with the parents as well. @corie, do you know whether the parents can be treated while feeding chicks - sounds like the oldest is around 10 days? ? In the meantime, you can start to give her a little relief by smearing the affected areas with Vaseline or something similar. May sure you don't block her nostrils with it, and all birds will have to be treated, plus all the cages, perches, feeders, toys etc where she has been. She has had this infestation for quite some time. When looking for the concentration needed make sure you are looking at 0.1% ivermectin, or 1mg/ml is the same concentration. Silvotin 0.1% W/v Oral Liquid 1 Ltrs Silvotin 0.1% w/v oral liquid 1 ltrs
Silvotin 0.1% w/v oral liquid 1 ltrs Composition : Ivermectin BP 0.1% w/v in suitable vehicle for Poultry birds, equines & Sheep & Goats dose : 1ml per 5Kg b/w Direction for use : he birds should be treated with SILVOTIN oral suspension in water at every 4 to 6 weeks where their is high level of infections. For best results use SILVOTIN once in 3 months for Layers and Breeders (Broilers & Layers) Quantity Add To card More Details Click Here Ivermectin : It belongs to Avermectin Anthelmintic group it is an off-white to yellowish powder soluble in propylene glycol. Pharmacology : It increases release of GABA, causing paralysis of both internal & external parasites and eventual death Pharmacokinetics : In poultry oral Ivermectin administration absorbs 95% . The peak drug level attains in 60 hours and half life is more than 16 days in blood. Storage 180 C to 20 C. Do not expose to direct sunlight SILVOTIN resolves all the above said problems of Ecto and Endo parasitic infestations. The above all came from the following site: www.indiamart.com/sihil-pharma/equine.html#silvotin-0-1-w-v-oral-liquid-1-ltrsIt does seem to be the correct concentration. Note the 1ml per 5kg body weight. This is why budgies only get a drop per 50gms - the average weight of a budgie. But to be followed up weekly for three weeks, more if there seems no improvement.

Hello Hezz, yes you can treat the parents while raising young. Thank you, @corie. That is good to know. Sorry, ravivadla, I didn't think to check volumes. Sometimes breeding clubs will help people out with small amounts. I hope you have some success there.

The vaseline really doesn't do the job as well as the spot on treatments; it is a good measure if you have no other way to treat the mites, but can take ages as you are effectively having to smother each and every single one of the little b*ggers. Any luck yet, ravivadla??
