I am also sorry to read that Smudge is in hospital. The good thing is that you have quickly found what the problem is. As to how to stop her nibbling in future, I was also thinking along the same lines as Samwiseg. A few years ago I bought a 'nibble deterrent' to spray along the window ledge when the boys were being adventurous & having a naughty nibble.

Hezz I'm so sorry to be reading this, poor smudge and you too. Remember we had a conversation a long time ago about bitter apple spray. I use it on Tilly when she gets stressed and starts licking herself, it stops her in her tracks. Don't know if you can get it there or indeed if it is safe for bud's but worth a look. Thinking of you both and rooting for smudge.xx

Thank you everyone for all the support. I appreciate it and know Smudge will too. I know I am going to have to do some repainting, that is a given, so I have talked to a paint specialist and the best he could come up with was a two-pack epoxy resin that costs about the same as a heart-lung transplant on the black market, , the next being a oil-based enamel with an enamel hardener added to it. To his credit, he barely batted an eyelid at my question. samwiseg, thank you for the link. I had forgotten this, skysmum, but will certainly be looking at getting some and it will be handy for more than just the paint ............ Mango has started just now scraping away at the black rubberized compound that they used to put the windows into place!!!! sweetpea, did it work???

Pretty sure it did work but you have to keep reapplying it. The question mark is that it was the boys doing the naughty nibbling & they can be easily distracted, not like a hen on a mission....

Well, I have ordered my nasty tasting apple spray; hope it does the trick. Tomorrow will see me at the paint store or the hardware, or both. I am going to do my painting and use the spray, and am also going to see if there is such an item as a plastic corner cover. It is just the very corner she has nibbled, so some sort of cover could work well. On a good note, I saw Smudge this afternoon. She has still be getting a crop feed a day as she hasn't been eating enough to maintain body weight. She is soooo light!!!!! Was happy to have a munch on millet while on my shoulder, she normally would want to eat the whole thing, but she did have a good little feed. Someone had also added some corn, carrot, broccoli and apple so she is getting well looked after. And didn't want to go back into her cage when it was time for me to go. Her blood had been taken, a few days though before we get results. Once she is feeding well enough to not need crop feeds she can come home, and we will need to go in every day for her injection.

That all seems like good news. I'm so glad she's feeling better.
I wish they wouldn't chew on stuff. It would make things so much easier.

Hang on in there Smudgy - let the vets do their jobs and get better so you can go home quicker! I had a picture of you at the vets Hezz with her on your shoulder eating millet and it brought a lump to my throat and a tear to my eye (sniff) I must be getting soft in my old age
