That all seems like good news. I'm so glad she's feeling better. I wish they wouldn't chew on stuff. It would make things so much easier. Yeah, me too. But that is a bit like asking a budgie not to be a budgie. Unfortunately.

Would something Like This be any good. I don't mean this exactly but something similar? Thanks OP, it probably is just the ticket, but the picture isn't showing for me. I now know exactly what I am looking for, tht sort of thing, and am sure it is available, just have to track it down. It will be a lot easier than only painting which still wouldn't give me an infallible solution, which the corner piece would do. I am going to jump on the phone in a bit, and see if I can't track it down ...... let my fingers do the walking. Edit: Photo showed up on the third attempt, and yes, that is what I will be looking for, just a thinner version.

Sounds like smudge is making good progress. What a relief that must be. I hope she continues on the up.
How are budgies with paint fumes. Our radiator needs painting but I figured with the boys that was a no go now which is no big deal as it's behind a settee but the one in the hall does need doing.

samwiseg, Marianne Marlow, mizloco, skysmum , JennyB....... thank you, thank you and thank you. I think we will get there ...... I wonder what this will do to her long term health - another question for the vet. JennyB, paint these days isn't like it used to be, but to be sure you can use low (or no) VOC paints.

I would think almost any DIY store would have such a thing in stock Hezz. It is made in various sizes and is fairly easy to cut with a utility knife. Good luck. I hope Smudge is feeling better by the day. It will do her the world of good to be with you and the rest of her flock.

JennyB - I got a low odour paint from B and Q when I moved here. Obviously I opened the windows but I couldn't smell it and assumed the buds couldn't either. I used it in my bedroom and kept the door closed but the window open. I think it could be used in the same room as them (in the summer) as long as you could have all the windows and doors open.

Goodness me aren't budgies a worry! But...they are amazing and hopefully she will have a full recovery, thinking of her and you and sending prayers.

Thank you, Jean. Yesterday she was looking better again, her eyes more rounded, and showing much more energy, nibbling millet on my shoulder again, a little bit of corn, but still not eating enough to be down to only one crop feed. She has lost about 10gms, and being a little bird anyway, she looks so tiny!!! She didn't want to leave my shoulder the whole time I spent with her, poor little girl ....... she has never been a cuddly one, but I swear she was cuddling into my neck, normally she would give me a nip if I stroked her with my cheek. It was quite sad to have to leave her, I think she really does want to come home. I have found what I need to cover over the corners, and while I will have to paint them at some stage, it doesn't have to be the super hardened enamel, and is cheaper than the can of paint. I am happy with that,

Smudge came home yesterday afternoon. The cacophony that resulted when the others realised, was deafening! She started calling up the stairwell as soon as we walked through the front door. She is eating well now and maintaining a good weight, so no need for crop feeds. We have just been in for the daily injection which she was not happy about - I could hear her giving the vet a telling-off. Test results not back yet, so no idea how much longer we have to continue for. She is to be kept separated from the rowdy mob for a little while and is constantly trying to break out. This morning she was seen by the vet who was on duty last Thursday when she was so ill; she confirmed that she didn't think Smudge was going to make it either. Smudge is one very lucky little bird. I have some photos of the reunion which I will upload a bit later.

It must have been so heart warming to hear the noise when you brought Smudge through the door. So glad she made it. Good luck with keeping her off the paint.
