Poor little guy, so sorry to hear this but they are amazing for their (tiny) size so am hoping and praying that he will have a full recovery.

Just got back from the Vet!!! Bo is pretty strong for a little guy with so much damage to the skin, but he will pull through! The scabs (this stuff is thick and hard, reminds me of candle wax, but not bridle at all!)seem to be more than a week old and new skin is forming nicely underneath. He will most likely lose a lot of feathers once the scabs fall off. I got something to put into the water (I can still use chamomile tea for his baths) to make sure he won't catch an infection and to keep the skin moisturized. All I have to do is keep Bo warm, bathe him once a day. Keep his surroundings clean and plenty of fresh food and water. My Vet recommended to apply a very thin layer of coconut oil to the spots where he already lost the scab and the skin is exposed. Fingers crossed!

I'm so glad you managed to get to the vet. Great news about your little bird, a lot of TLC and I'm sure he'll be fine. Would love to see some pictures of him when he's all better.

Great news for Bo, and yourself, obviously. Poor little mite. Yes, Ira, I do remember Savlon being a useful tool in the budgie-aid kit, as well. vhplac, I don't know whether you know of this, but propolis is very good also for open wounds as an antiseptic. It is magic bee juice, I call it. But stick with what your vet has prescribed for now, they should know what they are talking about.

Oh love his heart. Made me SO sad to see him like that, makes me want to cry so can only imagine how you feel. So glad you managed to get him to a vet. So does the vet think it's what your friend put on him that caused this? Please keep us updated, he is in my thoughts xx

Bo looks worse than ever! Bo gets his daily bath and then I cover his bald and scabby spots with coconut oil. He is also getting a supplement (drops) from the Vet, to make sure he gets all the nutrition he needs while healing. I moved him back with his 4 friends. He seemed to get even lower in his cage by himself. Now he perked up a little, eats and drinks fine and his buddy Gretel even attempts to groom him. He is loosing so soooo many feathers in clumps as the scabs fall off, but he is a trooper. This is a picture of him this morning. He looks like a cat got hold of him! I took this picture right before his bath. I actually bath him in two different bowls. One with warm water, because he has poop stuck to his bum every morning and when he is all clean, I dip in chamomile tea. He bit me yesterday (I get it, he is frustrated about forced baths and me applying coconut oil with a soft brush) and he drew some blood. I should have been upset, but instead I was kind of excited that he has enough strength back to pull it off!

Poor little Bo. You are doing a great job. And yes, I quite agree there is something reassuring about a bite that is strong enough to draw blood.

So glad to hear an update! And I know the feathers look awful, but to me your good care seems to be paying off because he looks a little better around his eye area, not so pale or something to my untrained eye. Thanks for the update!
