Yesterday I was given an adult male budgie by his owners because they no longer had time for him. He looked very sorry for himself when he arrived and his cage was wet through as he'd been kept in the garden and the garden shed. His cage mate died yesterday morning so he's feeling lonely. He's much brighter and happier this morning and we've called him Criswell. He's quite tame and is happy to be stroked on the chest and will eat seeds from my hand. He's been very chatty too. I'd love to keep him and get him a friend but I don't have room for an aviary so it will be much better for him if I can find him a new home where he can have company and space to fly. If any one in the Cardiff area/ South Wales has an aviary with space for him or knows someone who can help, I would be really grateful and I'm happy to take him to his new home. Thank you.

Poor little baby. Hope you find someone to take him. I can't help unfortunately as I am too far away. Can I just ask that you remove the perch covers and don't use the sand sheets I can see. They are not good for the birds feet and can make them very sore. Well done for taking care of the poor bud.

Thank you for the advice. I've removed the covers and sand sheet. Any more advice on what I can do to keep him happy is appreciated as he's the first bird I've had. Thanks

From the little I can see it could be a she. A front view of the face would help. also if s/he is a bit nervous, if you cover the cage on 3 sides it will help. Newspaper on the bottom is a good replacement.

It doesn't show in the photo but the areas his nostrils is bright blue. That makes him a male, doesn't it? He has newspaper in the bottom of the cage now.

Blue cere boy, yes....oh I'm so disappointed you're so far away....I wonder how old he is? My Mischief has just become single again after 8 years of having a 'mate'. I do hope you find him a good home, mind....they do grow on you and they're so sweet, I wonder why he was kept in a cage (not an aviary)in the garden shed if there were only him and his mate? Seems a bit pointless to me personally unless they are a 'flock' or kept for breeding....anyway.....do hope there is a good outcome all round, poor little chap.

Thank you. I hope you find a friend for Mischief. Criswell's owner originally kept in the house but another family member didn't want them any longer so they started putting them outside in the garden during the day and bringing them in at night. Then they decided they didn't want them in the house at all so they were outside in the day and in the shed at night.
I'm very pleased to say that I have now found a new family for Criswell where he will have a cage mate and loads of attention. I'm really happy for him but I will be a little sad to say goodbye when we take him to his new home next weekend as I've already got quite fond of him after one day. I would have kept him myself if I didn't already have a houseful of rodents but I'm pleased that he is going to have a new family who are very excited about having him.

I love a happy ending. Criswell will have new friends at his new home. You did a good thing, even though I know you will miss him.

Good news and well done you - we love to hear about budgies getting a nice new home especially if they've not had what they deserve already.

Well done at getting this feathered friend a new home. It is good to know he will be looked after and cared for. It sounds like he has had a rough time of it so far. Again, well done for taking on the challenge.

Thank you everyone. I'm so pleased for him getting a new start. It's been lovely seeing him gaining strength and confidence over the last couple of days. He only had 2 perches in his cage when arrived and it has taken him a little while to get used to having some toys but he has already become much more playful.
