ooooo Steve, you know that 4 will become 8. Brilliant, fun to be had er yep...lol... Will wait for a bit now as they are so young can't really tell if boys or girls although I suspect we have 4 boys Spent most of yesterday double messhing the outside flight , the mesh I used was from the aviary with the larger birds from years ago and was probably too big for buds ,so am going over it with some 13 X 13mm. They will be spending their first few weeks in the indoor area for now just to get used to it, then possibly by then they may get let outside. Will keep all food stuffs inside so hopefully that will make it easier to get them back in thanks for looking cheers steve

Had a good day today with the buds, while out shopping I found one of those spray mist bottles so when I got back home all of them had a quick slash.Once they realised what was going on all of them just sat on the perches and let me sray them.Think they enjoyed the preening sesion afterwards.2 of them were preening each other seems like the buds are starting to make friends a bit more.
Have got the rest of the week off so it will be good to spend time with them before going back on call again on friday.Hope by the end of the week to have them eating a few greens.......maybe

You have a beautiful mix of colours there, Steve. If you can get some front on, focused shots of their faces we can have a crack at sexing them with you. The closest two to the camera do look to be males, but closer up would be good.

Looking great Steve. You've made a really good job of it! I'm building my first aviary at the mo and just being nosey . I too am over budget, told my children that we might have to just have pictures of budgies as I'll have no money left to buy any once its finished!

I would say if building one whatever your budget is double it and then add 50%.
I did think of buying a new garden shed for mine and building the flight afterwards, however the shed that i have has all wood a minimum of 3 X 2 frames all around and some even 5 X 2. I am hoping that i have built a 20yr shed cos i don't want to be building it again....hth
The only thing I may do is to double the outside flight area for them.

Is it all finished now steve05412 do you have any photos? I'm going to line the inside of my shed with PB and rebuild my indoor flight this year, along with a juvenile flight as well. When will it ever end?!?!

Daz...still a WIP...need to line the rest of the shed am thinking more ply wood prob 8mm. For now have a few sockets in but not where I need them as ever, since fiting the light unit things have changed a bit this will rquire a time switch. Am also thinking about fitting a bathroom extractor fan to hopefully change the air for them when the weather is not good and the dor shut all day will prob have on a time switch so I can forget about it.
loooking forward to seeing your LED's

Just be aware that the timer switches the kind that replace a normal light switch, don't like fluorescent tubes or those low voltage bulbs. I had a tube in my shed and the starter burnt out. I've now fitted two standard rose pendants. One has a standard 60w bulb and the other has a low voltage bulb, but that still stutters when the timer switches on. If you use a plug timer and put your lights on a lead with a plug, they seem to be ok with tubes.
Hope this helps

Oh my gosh! This is amazing - can you come and build me one please? I love it. How talented are you! I would love an aviary one day. Did you do it all by yourself Steve?
