Oh dear! Sorry Starlingqueen and Titch. I am just catching up from the night before. You are doing a wonderful thing for him. I trust he is a little better today.

Only just caught up myself too, hope Titch is better today starlingqueen. You can't beat yourself up about not being there, you have to go out sometimes. But I know the feeling, felt the same when my Oscar went. How old is Titch SQ?

Thank for all the wise words. Titch is up and sitting on the branch on the floor leaning on the other branch. He is either very weak or has no balance. Every time I move the cage he falls over. Not sure if this is due to the loss of his flight and tail feathers or weakness.
I have no idea how old he is or his history before I got him. All I know is he was in a hamster cage with 3 others so I took them all. Only 2 are still here one being Titch. Though saying that Titch is the only one of the four who has a ring on his leg. I've never manage to get a look at it before so I'll have to see what it says.

He certainly is a tough little guy. I thought he wouldn't make it through the night but he proved me wrong. He's such a delicate little thing, barely weighs more than a butterfly. But boy is he feisty and his bite is like a vice, once he latches on there's no getting him off. He's only about 4 inches from head to rump.

He's still gaining strength, now sitting upright instead of laying down. He has spent most of the day sleeping. But he is hell bent on chewing off the mangled feathers. They must be irritating him so they have to go. I would trim them off but that would leave a sharp edge, if he chews them off he will make the end soft and "feathered". I looked him over and he seems fine, can't find any obvious open wounds. His leg band doesn't give anything away about his age unless he was hatched in 1988.

Good boy Titch, keep getting stronger. It may be as well you let him trim his own feathers like you say. It must have really knocked the stuffing out of him, poor lad. Now you need to know how he ended up that way or do you already know?

Now you need to know how he ended up that way or do you already know? He can't fly due to his FM so often ends up on the floor but usually scrambles back up. I have seen him on his back before and he manages to right himself but for some reason he couldn't yesterday. Maybe he was in a position where he couldn't grab anything to pull himself up. So I think he just got more and more exhausted trying. He did shred his own feathers, I know that much. I saw him today when he fell onto his back, he grabs his feathers with his feet and tries to pull himself up with them.
