Honestly I think having a budgie has gotten me to slow down and enjoy things a bit more. I'm putting in graduate level work for my undergrad degree. I don't know the equivalent for outside the US or if it's the same, sorry. I go to class and come home to study and do homework. I put in well more effort than anyone else I've ever met at college. Plus I have undergrad research and work at the zoo (interning). Before this year I was working full time, part of that as an overnights person, while going to school. I still put in the same effort on my work but I'll be talking to Basal and eventually he'll be out of his cage quite some time through the day doing what he likes and I'll get to enjoy all that. I sit by the cage with the door open when I have stuff I don't need the PC for.

Rae, it's a good job you have got Basal or you would be in danger of burning out, I don't know how you are doing it. Good luck with your studies and with Basal.

I don't know how I do it sometimes either. Right now I don't have to work, and when I got to grad school I'll be in a program that pays for my school and pays me, which will be even better. I got a really awesome schedule for next semester that will help with the "burn out" feeling. There are people with much worse situations. I'm doing pretty good considering. But Basal is teaching me patience, plus he's a riot to watch now that he's getting more comfortable outside the cage. Eventually I want a play gym for him, but it would be a waste to buy it right now. I want to do what I want, though, instead of a job just to get by. I have the drive and motivation and work ethic, it's just a matter of getting the credentials.

Good luck Rae, the hard work will pay off I completed my education and got a really good job which I was thankful for, but after ten years in social work I was close to burn out. I have an ongoing health condition which was getting worse. I eventually made the decision to leave the rat race and manage mine and the OH's business full time, to expand things and start my own business too. I left on Christmas Eve last year and despite having been really busy, my health has improved dramatically and I am blissfully stress free. Getting Douglas has just been the icing on the cake, I run everything from home and only have to go out a few times a week, so he is such valuable company. I was sat making toys last night and chatting with the OH about how my life has changed for the better, by leaving work and now having Douglas, I ended up shedding a few happy tears! What a plonker I am

My oh sold our company to someone so that we could expand, very long story, hmmmmmmmm why by a building company when you don't know about building, long and short of it, my oh left and we started again. Like you best thing we ever did.
Now time to love life and have fun

I totally agree suesbird, I could never just sit around and do nothing but it is so good to choose my own hours and the amount of jobs we take on. I pinch myself everyday to make sure it is real!

I will be working with animals in some aspect. I could work in conservation and do research, which I wouldn't mind for a little bit for the travel. I could work for a zoo or aquarium. I could teach, which I'd rather not do. I could even work in other's research labs or have my own. But honestly, if I don't get to do the travel and research I will work with a zoo or aquarium more than likely. But some send their biologists off to do field study. The one I'm interning with now is too young and small still to do that, but places like San Diego do.
