So is it the husks/seeds that have gone down the back of the drawer that are the problem, or is hte new seed not pushing the husks into the drawer?

No it does collect some of the husks in the drawer OP and the new seed does come through but there are still a lot of husks left on top of the seeds in the trough. Don't get me wrong it is great really and I'm quite pleased with it. Just after getting covered earlier I thought there must be another way of doing this. There have been so many great ideas and creations on here that I thought maybe there was a mini husk hoover out there somewhere

OK I get you now. Until you get an idea come up I guess you will have to keep getting covered.

Hi guys, sorry been off air for a few days. That is the problem with hoppers that are fitted internally. You either have to go inside to remove it/replenish it, and dealing with the husks. I'm looking at devising a system that is externally filled and emptied by using my winnower, but the birds obviously have internal access to the seeds. That is a bit of a work in progress, but I will post my final contraption one day.

Hi Darren, nice to see you back mate I have a lantern feeder inside and this does seem a bit easier to blow the husks out of but they do like this outside hopper too... Could be seeing you on the dragons den soon then? P.s your other design is great by the way!

I have one (three actually!) of those little hand held Black & Decker vacuum's, one's too powerful so we use that upstairs for whatever! One's too big and came without attachments so that's for floors etc but one is I think 4v and hoovers the husk off the seed champion. Unfortunately I can't find a picture because I think it's obsolete now as it's over three years old but it's very handy.

I am impressed; I have had two; not bothering any more.

Now if you weren't a firefighter I may agree....however....I have also met some Aussie men, some in South Africa (big boozers) and one in particular here who is always whining about 'home' but still he stays here....why....(ok I know why but I wish he'd stop whining about England!) ......not that I'm generalising but......

Don't worry, the reverse happens here too. I think it is world wide ....... even between states in Australia; you would get the same thing between different counties, I am positive. Shut up and go home if it was that good! But they don't; either shut up or go home.

Yes Hezz you're right, I was probably the same when we lived in Singapore & South Africa (I forget that's the trouble!) I know I used to get desperately homesick at times especially after my second daughter was born. Now I'm back 'up North' in the next county to my birth, I often say how different it was down south and London being like a different planet. My husband says - well we know.....people say the grass is always greener on the other side but that's only because there's more manure over there (he doesn't use the word manure though)

Well this morning I am all scrubbed ready to go and teach a class (only the 2nd time I have taught) feeling rather proud, hair behaving beautifully, make up looking good, so there I am over the waste bin blowing husks off and I blew too hard!!!! My lovely pink shiny lip gloss covered in husks, not a look I was going after at all.
