Good news Marianne. You should be able to get that under control with diet then. Great that you spotted it early.

Good news then. Well done, Custard. Marianne Marlow, your vet sounds amazing. Who and where is s/he? So many vets are only able to treat dogs / cats / small rodents. It makes me cross. I bet that not many could diagnose a normal sized liver just by palpating the bird.

I bet that not many could diagnose a normal sized liver just by palpating the bird. My vets name is Brian Stenson, he's in London at the Midland Vet Surgery in Leyton. He diagnosed a previous birds liver as enlarged by feeling it too, he also listens to their breathing and heartbeat by putting them to his ear www.midlandvetsurgery.co.uk/about-us/our-staff/veterinary-surgeons.shtml

Great sounding vet! I'm glad there is a plan in action for Custard now, you will feel a bit happier now that you know what you can do to help.

I looked at nutriberries a good while back, I think some-one mentioned them on here, They were a bit expensive I thought. They were traded as a treat back then. Maybe something has been changed since then. If I remember correctly it was some-one who visited a zoo and saw these nutriberries given to children to attract the budgies to them.

Good boy, Custard. Dr. Stenson is a real find. Good news all around. Now we all can breathe a little easier.

I certainly hope a tweaking of his diet is all that is required. Marianne. If he gives you any feed back on the aloe juice, I would be really interested, as well. Good luck, you two. Wow; those berry things are not cheap, are they???

It was a while ago now but the company that produces those had a marketing drive, but at that time they only had a few products. It seems like they are pushing the products again with many more variations to their original line. I feel that could be why they are being pushed out from vet's. I'm not at all suggesting the vet's advice is wrong, I'm not a vet, but they should stress the high vitamin and mineral content and they shouldn't be used as a replacement for the staple seed diet. Except for such as Marianne & Custard. He apparently needs the extra nutrients. It's just that a normally healthy budgie shouldn't need too many of these products. It's like feeding ones children on boiled sweets more than veggies, instead of feeding them veggies and the boiled sweets as a treat. This is purely my opinion formed after reading the contents of these nutri-berries made by this one company. Nutriberries are produced for human consumption as well, note the hyphen.

I'm not sure that you can compare them to boiled sweets, unless the sweets are healthy ones enriched with vitamins??
