Sorry, I was not comparing them directly with boiled sweets per se. But if one started giving one's children boiled sweets too often the child would not eat their veggies at all. Maybe Starlingqueen explains it better HERE.

It's a matter of opinion. My vet was saying that they are enriched with vitamins and are a complete food. They contain de-husked seed. Whereas things like trill and avia have the vitamins on the seed husk and that just gets binned.
So, it's up to everyone to decide what to feed their birds.
I'm of the opinion that the vitamins can help greatly as a lot of the birds I have taken in have been lacking in something or other, which is why I have been so reluctant to give them a seed mix that does not contain vitamins.
I am all for preventatives.
I guess it's different if you have a bird from a young age, but mine are often a lot older and the damage of a poor diet has already been done. Either that or I have just been very unlucky.

I think follow your vet's advice to the best of your ability. Otherwise, why bother going? Certainly ask questions if something doesn't sit right with you (see my thread on Food for thought: calcium); any decent vet will give an explanation, or consult with someone, to put your mind at ease.
I agree, Marianne, regarding the addition of "things' to the husks of seeds; I think the idea is that the birds "mouth" the seed to get rid of the husks and therefore take in whatever the nutrient is ....... I really don't know if this works.

Ive always been a bit sceptical about things like this and i did try mine on pellet's when Teddy had his fatty liver problem but they were less than impressed. However having read about these berries i found it interesing about the de husking, i had never thought about the vitamins being lost in that process. If its an easier and more enticing way of them getting those lost vitamins its got to be worth a try, i guess the proof of the pudding will be in the eating .

My vet also recommended the nutri berries when I took Spyro in. He recommended to feed the cockatiel ones. But the price really put me off... !

I put some eggfood out this morning and took their seed away for two hours.
Not one bird ventured near.
They all started squawking at me to restore their seed!!
So I put a leaf of basil in each dish, on top of eggfood and they came over, but just ate the basil!!
Try again tomorrow!!!

I've sent for some nutri berry veg! Haven't a clue as I've never heard of it before and wonder if my lot will even go near them as they're only used to seed but.....hey oh they deserve a treat at times. I've tried them with so many different things, especially Mischief over the years....hope they're not wasted as I can't smack their little bums Has anyone tried the veg and if so, wondering do I use a pestle and mortar to grind them? Ignorance is definitely not bliss! Well done Marianne, I can just imagine the hassle getting to the vet where you are, let's hope all goes well now.

Marianne Marlow, could you break them up a bit and mix them through the seed? I know our birds are too smart to fall for such an obvious trick, but maybe you can catch them on a lazy day? ? This is sort of what I had been advised to do with pellets, once upon an age. I do have to say I didn't try terribly hard to convert. I wasn't impressed; I saw no reason for the birds to be either. Or would they stick to a leaf if moistened? Crush them up, wet some basil and roll the basil in the crumbs???

I don't have any nutriberries yet Hezz (they're so flipping expensive and the two vet vists, red millet for jojo and aloe juice for custard have financially crippled us!) Today I just put the vitamins on the wet basil leaves.. they loved it, I am not to be outsmarted

I am not surprised, to be honest. The -berries are out of my price range and I can only imagine the red millet bill, then add on, yes, vet visits ........ it all seems rather endless, doesn't it? I can only hope something works for you, and Custard.

Jojo is eating seed now. It seems that she has decided to. I only give her a little millet on my shoulder now.
