I do feel like a have had a little reprieve/success with him after the despair I felt yesterday jellybean! I keep telling him to hang on in there we are going to get help really soon As you say I hope he continues to improve, at least till he gets seen by Mr E Vet on Tuesday if not more!

Something I have taken to doing is keeping a budgie diary. For your vet visit, make as many notes as possible going back as far as possible; when you first started to be concerned, when you became sure that something was not right, what he has been getting in his water, food. Any supplements, and on what days. That way you have all the information possible at your fingertips if asked. If they don't ask, tell them anyway!
The fact that he is squeaking is fairly diagnostic.

Already done it Hezz - got a "timetable of events" Which I will print off and take with us as it also ensures that I don't forget anything!

Back from the vet Am very happy with Alfies initial assessment she even listened to me and understood EVERYTHING! Hooray! I did weigh him this morning before he went and he has remained at 44g (more importantly he hadn't lost any more) and also gave overnight poop sample. She has given me a pot to save up 3 days of poops so she can do a faecal test first then we will go from there. If they prove inconclusive then it will be blood test and/or crop swab. He hasn't got any blockages or goitre but she clearly share my concerns. Will drop in his poops Friday and she will call me once she has test results. Watch this space! On a final note, would strongly recommended these vets to anyone who has budgies as well as ALL avian species in Kent. Even chickens Shirls starlingqueen!

Hugs to you and Alfie, Samwiseg. Isn't it a relief to find a vet you can trust and who listens to you. Between you and the vet, Alfie will be feeling better in no time.

Three cheers for the vet. More importantly for Alfie. Problem is he is not out of the woods so to speak. How the hell are you going to get Alfie to poop in the pot?

Glad that the vet is on the case I think the idea is to collect the droppings from the newspaper!! I usually put white paper at the bottom of the cage and cut out that birds droppings..

That is really good news samwiseg. I think I may have to use that vet for my budgies in future after your report. Although my original vet is very good, they are definitely NOT avian vets and are great users of good old Baytril for everything, which doesn't always work. Good boy Alfie, keep on eating and keep on pooping!!

Did I miss the name of the vets? It would be good to know just in case. My vets are very good but not avian specific, although there is one vet in the practice who is, but he's not always available. Glad you had a good experience with them though. Did they say what they think Alfie's problem might be?
