I don't think i feed anything too different to others tbh Jane . They have all the usual veg as you have mentioned but a couple of not so much heard off and which mine LOVE is Butternut squash and pak choi, i serve the butternut squash raw like carrot. They have herbs and one in particular that i like them to have at least once a week is Thyme, it is said to help with megabac and worms and has antibacterial properties, not that mine have these but prevention is better than cure aye. I also give them lemon balm occasionally, this grows in abundance in the garden. For the mash i just put anything i have into a food processor, whiz it up fine and put dried egg food into it. Their seed is Johnston and jeff Budgerigar, ive tried other seed but find it contains too many oats, this has none so they eat it all and don't just pick out the oats, if i think they need a boost with oats i give these separately but not often. Hope that has helped and given you a couple of idea's

It's given me ideas skysmum, I've never tried butternut squash, can't remember if I've ever given Thyme either, so thank you for some new ideas.

Welcome JB Just a little warning about spinach, it binds calcium so i only give it to mine occasionally, much to their disgust because they LOVE spinach

Thanks skysmum. What is the mash you mentioned? Is that just raw veg?

Thanks skysmum. What is the mash you mentioned? Is that just raw veg? Here you go Jane , yes just raw veg, herbs and dried egg food, mixed in after you've blended. If your adding sweetcorn do it after you have blended the rest. Without corn

skysmum, is spinach and its calcium binding an issue to hens only or should I limit Eric and Archies amount too? They absolutely love it, I tend to give them a leaf each every other day. Their other favourite is tender stem broccoli.

Any veg with high iron content will bind calcium and prevent the body being able to access it. Increasing the calcium in their diet can help. Is it spinach or baby spinach you give, Helen? Proper spinach and silver beet are the worst.

Thank you skysmum. I don’t have a blender. I suppose a masher would do?

I think it will be difficult to mash Jane as it's raw but i do grate it fine sometimes. That's me calling it a mash Yes helenmat if i give it it's baby spinach which is better

Little update from Budshire. Everybud is fine and little Flora Meep is thoroughly enjoying being a Budgie . A little sad news is that about 10 days ago i found little Betty Meep struggling on the floor of the Aviary, she couldn't fly or perch, she was very wobbly and kept falling to one side. Obviously something neurological going on with her, possibly a stroke, i think she is around 5 years old. I brought her in and put her in a hospital cage and kept here very warm, after a week she seemed to rally but remains on the floor. She perked up hearing Flora and the Buds so i took her out into the conservatory where Flora came to visit her. I have since adapted the bottom of the Montana cage where she is currently residing, she seems to like this arrangement having constant visitors and Flora spends quite a bit of time with her. If i'm honest i don't think she will recover from this but if i took her to the vet he would probably advise putting her to sleep. For now, she is eating and drinking and seems happy enough so we shall see how things go. Some pics from this week

Poor little Betty 😔. She couldn’t be in better hands skysmum and as long as she has a quality of life I wouldn’t be rushing to take her to the vets either.
