I think the side doors are designed to lift upwards so a nest box or bath can be fitted without catching on the door. Thanks sweetpea. I can't wait to see my boys in it later. Just setting it up now. Put the silo feeders on ok, but isn't everything fiddly these days?

I don't think the side doors are for the birds I think they are for maintenance of the cage and as sweetpea said for nest boxes etc.

I can see that it could be that when you're accessing the cage from the side the birds cannot escape as the door is resting on your arm. They are a bit put out at the moment as I am taking their items out the canto.

Jane you can always change the doors round, just ease open the little hinges, take door off and fix the hinges to the bottom allowing the doors to drop down instead, ive done this on many a cage

I did try but the metal is really strong so I left it. What did you use to prise the metal and more importantly to fix them back again?

I got two of those silo feeders starlingqueen but do you find they make a mess? With mine a load of pellets fall out over the floor and it's such a waste. I have to order the pellets online so don't want to waste them.

Yes, they do tend to throw the seed out. I have a pot underneath to catch the dropped seed and they eat from there too.

I think there's a gap somewhere where it fits by the cage as if you tap the feeder by accident when cleaning out the cage loads come out. They are also fiddly to take out to clean. I'm using the seed cups again now as so much easier.
