I have to say, the avian vet was brilliant. He picked Boo up and in less than a second said there's definitely something wrong. His crop was too gassy, his wings weren't quite sitting high enough, and there was something in the way he was closing his eyes that indicated an occasional pain episode. It just took one glance for him to note it. He sounds like a great vet to have picked it up that easily. It would have been great to have but no vets here for sure.

You are probably very good with your own diagnosis by now, BB.
Any news, Stace?

Well, the bad news is it's not a simple thing to fix, requiring a series of four hour long vet visits to have his whole gizzard flushed with meds and oily stuff to try to move the blockage out.
The good news is that the vet believes we've caught it in time and is hopeful he can flush the stuff out.
He's not certain what Boo has eaten, but says it looks like fabric of some kind, as he can see fibres in there in the X-ray. Hard to say. I still have no clue. This lump of stuff shows up clearly in the X-ray as a large mass blocking his proventriculus (stomach), the bit lower down in the bird's eating department. Almost a centimetre round. Stupid, stupid Boo.
This stuff is fermenting in his stomach, giving him both a bacterial and yeast infection as a nice bonus prize.
I took him back to the vet this morning for a four hour visit where he was crop flushed once every hour. Unfortunately for me, the vet is an hour's drive away. So I've pretty much had all day at this. And I have to head out again tomorrow for another four hour session.
Both times I've been out there, poor Boo has spent the trip back spewing up everywhere, which the vet did warn me about. Just cleaned up his transport cage, ready for the round trip tomorrow.
However, while trying to amuse myself while waiting out in the middle of nowhere, I have bought a long 5m long telescopic aluminium pole with a cobweb brush attachment on it to get rid of the spiders in this void space which I can't reach in my house. I guess that's a plus.
Meh. Two days off work. A vet bill that is doing some serious serious damage. (The x-rays are the killer.) But I'm hoping I'll get my sweet little bird back to health soon.
I've also got some antibiotic and anti yeast infection medicines to give him at home in his water – Clavulox and Mycostatin.

He is soooooo not happy about being put in his little transport cage. He squirms about like a cat in a sack. He stuck to me like glue when we got back. He wants his mum. But I'm sure he's a little better. At least I hope so. Took this on my camera phone, sorry about the fuzziness. He's gonna hate me doing this to him all over again tomorrow. What a brave boy. Now I have to figure out what on earth he's been eating.

Lets hope Dr Rob can work his magic, then. And yes, I know about xrays! Sounds like everything is under control though.

Blueboy did the same when I put him in his transport cage the other day! I think they hate the fact it's so small! It's nice and secure though isn't it.

It sounds positive Stace. Poor little Boo is going through the mill right now but hopefully in a few weeks this will all be well behind you and he will be back to full health. I think he knows you're helping him despite hating going thorugh it. It does sound like he is being very brave. Looking out for more positive news tomorrow.

Boo is such lovely colours. Do you know his mutation? I have been told he is a double factor Goldenface, which is why his colours are so intense and bright. The vet actually remarked on how bright his colouration is. He is very vivid in both the blue and the yellow.

I don't think I have seen one like him before!

I'll tell him you said so, as he needs a bit of cheering up. Don't want him to get too up himself though.

You are probably very good with your own diagnosis by now, BB. All I do is to make videos of the sick birds and send to friends around the globe. Barrie is one of them. They advise and I act accordingly. I have learnt a lot this way but still a long long way to go.

I hope Boo recovers very soon Stace. All of us here love your pictures and updates about him. It will be interesting to know what he has been eating. Best of luck
