Boo is such a loveable character - even though you are both having a difficult time at the moment, at least you know what the problem is and you and the vet are able to do something to help the little guy me & mont give our love & thoughts to you both, get well soon Boo x

Poor Boo - I hope he feels much better soon and gets over this ordeal without too much trouble. He is a beautiful budgie and how lovely that he clings to you for some comfort after! Just like a toddler... :-) A lesson to us all to be very watchful over what our budgies are nibbling at.

Amazing what they are doing but poor Boo - geez! It's great he has such a good mommie to cling to.

Another day, another four hours at the vet's surgery. Boo has had what we hope is his final flushing out sessions. He's now on meds for the rest of the week at home, and back to the vet next Tuesday for another x-ray (Ka-ching! Ka-ching!) to see if the blockage is gone.
He's very subdued right now. I hope it's just since he's had a big and stressful day in the hospital.
And we've discovered the culprit. It's rope. From now on the only things he gets to chew on are leaves and branches. Sorry Boo, but them's the brakes.

i cant remember if boo has rope perches.... did he or could he of got it from one of them ..... It's this tiny bit of rope that was on the end of some natural wood chunks. The vet said any kind of fibre, whether in a perch or a toy or whatever, can cause a blockage - paper, sisal, cardboard, cotton, jute, hemp - all of them and more. He said the only thing that is truly safe is natural branches and leaves for them to chew on.

Got to say, I never would have guessed that bit of rope would be the culprit? Fingers crossed he will pick up and be his usual cheeky self in no time, at least he is home now with his mum

Did he mention bark, Stace? My guys are great bark shredders. I imagine bark would be fairly safe, but just wondering........

When we got home at around 3pm today he was very subdued. Then he spent the next three hours asleep on my shoulder, making these plaintive little peep noises from time to time - like he was in pain. I was getting very worried. He's never like that. Four hours later and he gradually perked up. He's feeling a lot better now, and has just gone off to bed. I have to take him back next Tuesday (in one week) for what we hope is his last x-ray to see if the blockage and infections are gone.

Poor little sausage. Maybe he was just exhausted from all the stuff he's been through.
Hope you get good news on Tuesday.

Foreign body obstructions typically occur in healthy budgies who are inquisitive and playful. Yup. That's my Boo. Wish he'd just calm down sometimes.
