Couple of questions.
What milk thistle does everyone buy? I assume it's some sort of tincture.
What is a suitable doseage to give?
If you give it in the water can you also give things like ACV or Guardian Angel at the same time or do you need to put them in different bowls of water?

Sorry you've waited so long for a reply Ira. I'll post a picture of my milk thistle tomorrow, I keep it in the room where the boys sleep, and they're tucked up for the night.

Ira don't put the ACV in the same water as the milk thistle and Guardian Angel. It changes the pH of the water and may effect the milk thistle and Guardian Angel. Since we don't have Guardian Angel in the US, I'll leave it to the folks who use those to answer if they can be mixed. Also sorry I didn't answer sooner.

Milk thistle: Nature’s Answer is the brand that I use and recommend. For my fatty liver friends I have used three drops into 100mls water but as I’ve said a few times recently, this isn’t an exact science; it is what has worked for me and I’ve gotten there over time. At one time I was adding four drops to keep Misty’s vomiting under control (suspected by the vet to be caused by his liver problems as there was no other obvious cause), I reduced this back down to three a while back when he hadn’t vomited for a long time and it didn’t kick anything off. I had been thinking of trying another reduction recently as he did seem to be doing so well. Mango has it as well, same dosage, and it has kept her lipoma down.
Whether to mix it with ACV, well I have and it has still done its job. The small amount of ACV in the water is going to change the pH only slightly, just enough to keep pathogens from feeling comfortable enough to multiply. Since I felt the MT was needed every day, there wasn’t going to be a day to add only ACV, I tried both together and it worked for me.

Since Hezz has a whole lot more experience with this, I'd go with her recommendation.

This is the one I have Ira. I didn't know it came in different strengths. I give (on the vets advice) 3 times per week as a preventative dose for Ben because of his age. 3 drops per 150ml html photo hosting

You need to be mindful of the different strengths. I also use Nature's Answer MT.
Here's my vet's recommendation for supporting the liver: 10 drops in 70ml for a 585mg formulation, or 6 drops in 70ml water for a 900mg formulation, or 3 drops in 70ml water for a 2,000mg formulation.
Obviously you'd need to adjust depending on the purpose but do check the strength. At the time I asked my vet for clarification on dosage based on strength, it turned out I had been under-dosing for awhile!

Thank you everyone!
Probiotics I can possibly sprinkle on food, at least.
I'll get some ordered and figure out how much is needed. The ACV I just kind of tilt until a couple of drops go into the bowl, but this I'll get to measure.

That’s very handy info, sweetpea, to have from the horse’s mouth, so to speak. Nice to know I’ve been doing the right thing all along.

I use aloe water and milk thistle together in the morning, and acv overnight because I thought it might not taste good together. Didn’t think about the water ph or anything like that though!
Guardian Angel should be fine to mix with the milk thistle also. I only use GA on food though, because the dosage is less since it isn’t diluted that way. It can go on any wet food, even seed, because they lick it off when they shell their seed.

Good points to know.
I will discuss with the vet when I see them next week too.
But for now we have it on the way and Jellybean has kindly provided dilutions.

I don't want to throw a spanner in the works or make things overly complicated but I just wanted to pass on to you the info I obtained direct from Natures Answer regarding their milk thistle products and concentrations. I wanted to start Bramble on milk thistle but was confused by the different strengths available, I wanted to buy the 2000mg but seemed only able to get the 585mg. One company I contacted suggested that the 2000mg product had been relabelled as 585mg to meet EU regulations but that in fact the strength hadn't changed at all. That info led me down the proverbial rabbit hole so I decided to ask Natures Answer directly and having checked the product information documents at their end they confirmed that yes, what was originally sold as 2000mg in the UK has in fact been relabelled as 585mg and that the strength/concentration of the 2 products are identical. It's all to do with raw product versus extract and the active ingredients per 2ml dose I think. The response I received from Natures Answer is copied below. I'm therefore using the dosage recommended by Hezz even though my product is labelled as 585mg. As it's a herbal remedy I don't think giving it in higher doses would cause too much harm but I wanted to pass the info on in case it helps, especially as it seems to contradict sweetpea vets dosing advice. We do use different labels regarding US and EU regulations. The product in each is absolutely the same. I have direct access to regulatory documents, so I am 100% confident that the formulas are the same. Please see the attached master packaging records that show the bulk product code number being '5510NA' for both the AF108 (American labeled product) and AF108I (International labeled product) bottle fills. The 195mg is noted as well as the 2,000mg on the formulas, which unfortunately I cannot share with you. I confirmed with our production manager that the 585mg indicated on the International label is the 195mg per two ml (one serving) and then multiplied by 3 for the recommended daily amount. The 2,000 mg is the amount of dry herb that was used to manufacture each serving. Lot numbers change with each batch, but product code numbers will not, unless there is a formula change.
In a nutshell, please refer to the label indicating 2000 mg when dosing for your feather babies!

Red tape has so much to answer for. . I wonder if this is a new thing or the way it has always been. To add my little two cent’s worth, the only concentration I’ve found on the website that I use has been the 2000mg one. willowsmum’s information may be the reason why.

I need to order Milk Thistle for the boys and reading over this thread I'm thinking I need some advice....
The MT I had was 900mg (picture posted in the thread) so I used to give 3 drops per 150g of water as instructed by my vet.
But I now see it comes in different strength which I didn't realise before 🤦♀️
So, if I bought the 585mg bottle how many drops would I need to add to 150g of water as a PREVENTATIVE DOSE?
