Hezz And I had just changed up the travel cage layout to try to make it cosier and more linnie-friendly for the duration of the month, and had been at work all day so he wanted to be out socialising more. It just hurts more than the budgies' bites do (when they're biting properly, which I haven't felt since Pippin last year). He steps up beautifully inside the cage, and is fine with my hand coming up to ask him to kindly get off of my head (he just climbs down my hair to my shoulder then), and always flies to me as his safe place when he gets flighty. Even when we were at the breeder's when something spooked him he came to me rather than her. But linnies are known to be handshy as a species. ariella I can occasionally hear him moving around. I don't think he's really found the tunnel with his sock buddy. Maybe sock buddy will have to sleep on the floor at the back of the cage. criswell None of my green birds are named after anything green. Apart from Emerald when I was young, so that name has already been taken. I looked through loads of names yesterday but nothing's really stuck.

Ira Name suggestions: Avi, Bentley, Crispin, Dexter, Eddie, Fred, Gigi, Hunter, Iso, Jase, Kiwi, Louie... I always find names impossible!

Thanks. It's become a love/hate thing. I feel like after Yuki names suddenly became impossible. That might also be because now I have to take OH's opinion into consideration though. He'd be named by now otherwise.

I really like picking names. Usually we had one picked out in advance based on a photograph of a potential new arrival plus discussions in days leading up to meeting them. I still have a list of potential names for gerbils which I didn't get to use. Dean Stockwell was on that list, paired with Scott Bakula. If I'd had another hamster I wanted to call him Vinz Clortho, which would have been a bit complicated if he'd ever needed to go to the vets Randolh Carter's name was confusing enough - vets are just not used to pets having their own surname! You'll pick a great name for him.

Names can be tricky, but generally something comes to light sooner or later. My father was great with names for animals; I don’t have that gift, unfortunately.

You'll pick a great name for him. I love picking names too. Usually I have a list of potential names on the go before getting any new little ones. I had all my children’s names and middle names picked out each time before they were conceived, both a boy and girl name as we had surprises with them all. I tend to use human names for my animals now. We had cute names for the fluffies when the kids were little - popcorn, cookie, bubbles and my daughter’s guineas are Cinnamon and Nutmeg - and I’ve let the kids choose their own names for their tree frogs and geckos they had, but all the hens, rescued tortoises, dogs and buds have had names I just like. The fish even get names! I often name them after favourite tv characters however and we’ve had Ragnar, Rollo, Floki, Bjorn, Lagertha and Torvi the minnows, Uhtred, Finan, Brida and Gisela the danios and now the platties have Greek names - Apollo, Adonis, Aphrodite and Athena.

I named a few fish in my grandparents' pond. We had Nick because she had a nick in her tail, Rouge, Houdini, and Elphaba who had a swim bladder problem so was 'defying gravity'.
I tried to have a list of names before we got Gwen but it didn't really work without knowing her first.
Going to try a taxi stick for step up to avoid bitten fingers. Got Friday off so 3 day weekend with him.
I uncovered him this morning and said "good morning", and he returned a low squawky burble with the same rhythm.

Hopefully you’ll achieve some good progress over the 3 day weekend. Lovely that it sounds like he’s making a response to your good morning. I love the pond fish names. Fish need names too.

It sounds like he might be a quick learner, Ira. Glad you've got 3 days to spend interacting with him.

Neither of my two have ever tried to bite me so I’m sorry I can’t help with that type of linnie advice! Lottie likes to groom me and sometimes does a little pinch too hard, but no real bites.
As for the nails though, Lottie’s needed trimming twice cause they were just getting very long, and Happy’s needed trimming just once cause his were curling, but then the natural perches seemed to sort them both out. Neither have needed nail trims in months so fingers crossed for you!
He is just precious! I’m amazed he may already be speaking. That is so exciting 🥰 As for names, here are a few from my ongoing list that may or may not fit him: Coda, Jasper, Sitka, Elm, Nettle, Sly, Dango, Benji, Esky, Mosey, Motley. You know his personality best, I’m sure a name will just click soon.
I would love to know if your breeder’s yellow linnie does end up being a boy, because genetically it shouldn’t be possible if the mom was not ino herself. If he is male, she should contact a university I think!

Morgan Currently it's a case of trying to figure out what parts of his personality are him and what's general linnie. That's the really weird thing. Apparently all lutinos from that pair have turned out to be male when DNA tested. I guess we'll find out if Sunny replaces Lemon for breeding. I feel bad not having much time with him on work days, currently made worse by the quarantine situation because we still have the budgies to clean up after and dinner to cook and eat. Once he's upstairs he can stay out with us a bit longer whilst we do all of that. I said goodnight to him and covered him up last night and he made such sad sounding little noises.

We ended up naming him Cocoa on a trial basis and I think it's stuck. Referring to him as 'the linnie' is a bit of a habit though. Debating whether to pop out for a taxi stick or use the wand off of the family altar. I think that's a bit too smooth to grip nicely though. The breeder was saying about doing some handling with him but other than getting additional holes in my fingers I think that's just making him more nervous of my hands. Though, like Pippin, if he's nervous of hands anyway I guess at least he might learn that nothing bad happens? Pippin's certainly calmed significantly when handled thanks to just handling him. Currently it seems to take Cocoa ages to decide whether he's interested in the millet I'm offering him or not. Maybe I should have chopped it into bigger pieces. Fortunately Cocoa being far less flightly and fluttery than the budgies means that Lily the cat barely registers that he's there if we happen to cross paths, because Cocoa likes to ride around doing chores. We still keep a close eye on the pair of them, of course, especially as Cocoa is fond of flying over to Lily's owner, but at least I can keep him with me a little more whilst I'm busy, at least until quarantine ends.
