I like being a "bit-player" in the life of my budgies. I enjoy watching their dramas. I love their voices, which is why I have never felt compelled to teach them to "talk". I completely get why other folk like this though. When they sit on me or otherwise interact, especially the ones that aren't particularly tame, it's an absolute joy for me

Sometimes I wish I could be more hands off. I mean, I enjoy watching them. Recently I've barely done anything with them anyway. Most of the time I just conclude that I don't know what I want. Though I think my preferred maximum number is 4. One hand per bird. Honestly, as much as I enjoy a large flock, managing who's eating what and the potential for multiple unwell birds... I'm not sure I could manage that as much as anything. Certain couldn't afford it.
I've never been bothered by whether they talk or not. I certainly wouldn't expect to hear it in a flock. Munchy did, but he was a singleton. He just picked stuff up.

When the numbers decline I get broody because it feels weird and quiet, but then when I have more it's too much to manage.

Sometimes 10 feels like a lot to manage. But at the moment they are all pottering about doing their own thing.

Mine are all covered. I have four in one cage, eleven in the other and a few of them are chittering & bickering. Chocobo is on the bookcase

Well, it's been a while but Chocobo required rescuing just now. I found her in the kitchen, clinging to the corner of the wall where the back door is. It took me a moment to take it in. She seemed to be clinging to the side of the waste seed jar I keep on the counter but she also seemed to be holding onto the bead curtain covering the back door. In truth, she wasn't really doing either. She had inserted a claw into a tiny gap in the tiling, between the tiles and a bit of corner edging. I've never noticed a hole in the grouting - it really wasn't much more than a pinhole but Chocobo had somehow gotten her claw stuck in it. I've no idea how long she had been there. Certainly less than an hour and hopefully less than half-an-hour. I donned my handling gloves and gently brought her body up so that there was no weight on the claw. She slipped out easily then. She used her foot briefly when she perched up on the kitchen cupboards but very soon, I saw that she was favouring it. She's now resting on the curtain rail shelf in the lounge. She's has had a few visitors but everyone has been respectful and left her in peace. Finarfin sat with her for a time to make sure she was OK. She's currently having a snooze on the shelf.

Aww poor thing. She was prob scared too. I hope her foot/claw is ok She was limping on it earlier, so it must have been feeling better. Experience tells me she should be fine in a day or two. I put her to bed (she put herself) in the Nighttime cage, partitioned off so she isn't bothered. The chances of her trapping herself like that... I couldn't have imagined her doing it.

"I'm fine now Daddeh, thank you for the fresh veggehs." My Girl had a peaceful night in her own section of cage. I'm glad I was able to sort that out with no disruption. The rest did her good, she's running around quite well this morning with little sign of a hurty.

Current favourite game: Pick up a nutriberry from the Forage Gym, nibble on it, drop it to the floor and watch Daddeh return it. Repeat as many times as times as is amusing. Sometimes Chocobo will drop the nutriberry somewhere I cannot easily reach it and it will get left until the next time I am accessing that inaccessible spot. The look - the stare - she gives me when I fail to pick up the nutriberry is priceless.
