These hens can be stupidly determined with laying eggs.

Chocobo had several minutes away from the nest earlier. She ventured into the kitchen where she played the chasing game with the budgies. I had long enough to start hoping she was going to rejoin society and then she was back under the aviary. It's been 31 days now on the nest, if memory serves. That's long enough.

Come on little girl, babies are just not in the plan for your life. Give it up and come out and play with the others and your dad.

She's gone back in now but my Chocobo has spent most of the past two & half hours this morning out & about, socialising, exploring and having fun. I know she's looking for a mate again but it's so lovely to actually see her! And to get twatted by her wing every time she flies past! 😂

It's lovely that Chocobo was out and about this morning. I'm sure everyone was pleased to see her

Chocobo has a very devoted fan club amongst the male budgies. They follow her obsessively!

Well I have had the pleasure of Chocobo's company for most of the day! I had to discourage her from exploring under the other cage a couple of times this morning but she's shown little interest in hiding under her usual cage. I am cautiously hopeful. Not looking forward to cleaning under the cage where she made a nest!

I'm glad you have spent time with Chocobo today. Let's hope it's the same tomorrow

Chocobo is in the cage with Eeyore and Herman tonight, first night in the cage for at least five weeks. Mr Hibs and Squeak are in the other cage. Squeak won't share a cage with Chocobo now as Chocobo has a tendency to chase Squeak away, with extreme prejudice. They do not tolerate each other!

Bit of a shock today for Chocobo and myself. I've been in and out a fair bit today but gradually it became obvious to me that Chocobo wasn't coming out from under her cage for food or water. I heard her moving around but I hadn't seen her. Having sat with the flock for a while just before lunchtime I checked under the cage as I had become certain something was wrong. Very wrong. Somehow she'd gotten a foot tangled up in some carpeting she had ripped up. I carefully moved the cage to one side and cut away the carpet - being careful to snip far away from her trapped foot. Chocobo struggled a great deal - my Goat, she has a powerful bite - and she got her other foot tangled up too. She was able to fly free after I'd finished snipping. Both her feet had carpet strands wrapped around them and was no way I could address this on my own. She's too big and powerful for me to hold her securely and safely in one hand. So I captured her in my net - a drama in itself as she's an amazing flier - and got her into the hospital cage. 20+ mile drive to the vet who saw her straight away. The vet was able to untangle Chocobo and there is no sign of damage to her feet. She's quiet and subdued now but she is chatting quietly to me and she's eating, drinking, perching and flying ok. She seems to have forgiven me for netting her. We have been very lucky here but I need to trust my instincts better. If I don't see Chocobo when I would normally expect to, she may be in a spot of bother. I have removed access to her nest now and disposed of her five non-fertile eggs. The carpet is covered in some sheets of chocobo-proof material so there will be no repeat of this in the future. I just hope she's not going straight into another egg-laying session now! I'm keeping a close eye on my beautiful girl now but I think she's ok.

Recovering well from her fright. I just need now to recover from mine!
