The Avian vet is not there until Wednesday and I was going to phone her then. At first on Friday I thought his symptoms were due to what seemed to be an ordinary moult….then the clicking started. Then he had diarrhoea, that’s why I was asking about the milk thistle……..I am definitely worried about him and coming on here helps me…….The vet did say that because he had such an intense course of antibiotics etc…. If his symptoms returned it would be unlikely that he could be helped further…… She mentioned Borna virus ….there is no cure……..It helps to chat here . Today he doesn’t seem interested in food again and is fluffed up.. so naturally I am worried.

It's awful worrying about our budgies so much. I am keeping my fingers crossed that it's his moult.
How are his droppings now?

I'm so terribly sorry for your worry, ladybird. I'm hoping Charlie can turn things around, whatever is wrong with him. He's a very dear boy, that much is plainly true.

Not as loose Marianne but not normal…….He isn’t eating unless I hold millet in front of him……and just sitting with his head under his wing ☹️ ….I don’t think it’s just because he has moulted. ……I really thought he was better because last week he was full of life and talking away….There is absolutely nothing I can do to help him ( I have put a hot water bottle on top of his cage where he sits)….. I will speak to the vet on Wednesday…but I do know she was worried about Borna virus…..

I've edited my post because I think I'd only read one page when I posted. I'm so sorry that Charlie is poorly again. So worrying for you. I really hope he starts to feel better again. Poor little guy.

I just looked it up, I’m obv not remotely knowledgable like your vet, but I wouldn’t have associated the symptoms of that with what you’re describing and how Charlie was. Yes he might have a weakened immune system, but I couldn’t see other similarities. Plus he was on anti biotics? Not sure a virus responds to them, apologies if I’m wrong.
The fact he became himself again, maybe needs a longer dose?
It’s horrible having to wait to speak to the vet.

I agree with you fficool I looked it up too. It’s a shame he was so I’ll when we took him I’ll because he didn’t get any tests because she wanted him on antibiotics immediately…..He had those every day for two weeks ….she said she had treated him for everything she could think of……. He has gone really bad again today…still has diarrhoea and isn’t really eating, just sitting fluffed up again. It is breaking my heart because I can’t help him.

Poor little Charlie! It is so heartbreaking when our budgies get ill. They are so tiny and helpless. We want to do all that we can but we don't know how to help them, mostly because we don't what's wrong - just that they are not acting like themselves. I know Wed can't get here soon enough for you. Please keep us posted about Charlie, we share your concern for him.

so hard to see them ill. you are doing everything you can and hopefully he will perk up again even though not been unwell with his moults before. maybe if he has weakened immune, then the moult has taken it out of him.

Do you have a heat lamp, or even a reading lamp with incandescent bulb? Either works well for giving a sick bird the necessary warmth to keep their body temp up, and if you don’t have anything like that, I would get one as soon as you can. Hot water bottles are next to useless in my opinion.

He is not well at all…..sitting fluffed up and silent. His poops are runny and green. Not eating either. The vet isn’t there until tomorrow, but I am not well either so couldn’t get there if she was……I am so worried 😟 Hezz we don’t have a heat lamp, so all we can do is keep the room warm and keep changing the water bottles and cover his cage at the back…….I am doing my best.

If he's not eating, could you try the lactated ringers solution again? I know it's only a temporary patch, but it might give him some energy to be able to eat.
