Charlie has been back from his stay at the vets for just over a week now. He was back to his normal chatty self straight away . The last couple of days he has been very itchy and the bottom of his cage is covered in his downy feathers. Today he is a bit quiet and I am hoping that it’s just because he is starting a moult……. He is still on Metacam in his water for another week and today I have started Milk Thistle in his water too for his liver…….Now normally when he moults I give him Guardian Angel in his water……I have never tried adding it to his food…….opinions please?

Poor little Charlie having a molt so soon after being ill. I hope its a quick molt. I don't know about GA so I'll it for others to respond.

I don't have a useful opinion on GA - I'd always give it in water as I don't trust my crew not to nibble around GA sprinkled on their food but that's just a feeling of mine. I will say I'm really pleased that Charlie is settled back home and that normal budgie concerns are the subject at hand once again.

Sprinkled over food is an acceptable way of providing GA, and it certainly wouldn’t hurt him to have a bit of a probiotic boost at this stage.

The vet has perscribed this milk thistle and said put 0.3 ml in water………does anyone know how much water to put it in? I did ask and she said in his normal amount, but that seems vague to me….

Whenever I have given GA to my birds, I have put it in their water and sprinkled it over their food too.

I will just sprinkle it on his food…..The milk thistle is 0.5 into his water. Poor Charlie is having a heavy moult , so sleeping a lot and very grumpy. He had just got back to his normal self too 🥲

Poor Charlie. He's probably conserving his energy like a good boy. Herman on the other hand has endured his first serious moult (and it is a doozy) by losing his mind and acting like a full-blown lunatic. He looks like he's on amphetamines ahalf the time. Total excess of personality.
Feel better soon Charlie, we all love you almost as much as Mummy does!

Thank you lozhinge…Charlie has always gone quiet during a moult…but I worry that it’s the illness coming back…the vet said it was possible. But he is itchy and loosing lots of feathers so fingers crossed it’s the moult. 🤞🏻🤞🏻

Whilst there's no clear indication of the illness returning, I would force yourself to believe it's the moult. There's nothing to be gained from worrying over a thing that hasn't happened (yet). Practice positive thinking - whilst keeping a careful watch over the little lovely, to be safe.

It does sound like a bad moult, plus he’d been on meds. Will he let you spray him to reduce itching?

No he hates a spray…. He likes to go under the kitchen sink sometimes, so if he wants to come out tomorrow he might do that. He’s in a really bad mood today, has really had a bite at me 🙄, and I was giving him some millet ….I should give him the vet bill 😳.

ladybird Bertie has been in a very bad mood too and bit me yesterday. He's also moulting and a bit spiky.

It’s definitely moulting season as Jasper is just coming through the worst of hers and now Henry is crotchety with his spiky pinny head. Really hope Charlie just has a few quiet days as he normally would during a moult ladybird, and then pick back up again. After being on antibiotics and away for a fortnight, still on the metacam and now having a moult, he must be feeling it, bless him. I’ve used GA on food before in the same way I would Feather Up. Hope he soon picks up.
