Although he seems perfectly fine, feeding, singing, playing, pooping and otherwise acting normally, my Hibs is headed to the vet in a bit for a check over. His nostril, the one below his small bald patch, appears to be blocked. It has cleared once or twice in the past couple of days but the blockage keeps reappearing so it needs investigation. I suspect Baytril AB is going to be prescribed, so I have a week or so of that to look forward to! I managed to manoeuvre Mr Hibs into the travel cage with minimal fuss and some millet. Easier than the last time I tried to capture him. My brain still sometimes works.
I'll update upon return from the vet.

Good luck at the vet with Mr Hibs, I hope it's a simple thing to clear.

Who is missing from the photo?
I see Chocobo and only 3 buds including Mr Hibs, but it's too dark to make out which budgies are on the roof.

Thank you, ffiscool.
The vet I saw was not my usual exotic but a very nice chap with "some experience with birds". In conversation, I learned that this vet had once pinned a crow's broken leg, using the needle of a syringe for the internal fixator and then splinted the leg with a couple of matchsticks. I felt I was in good hands.
The vet took his time with Mr Hibs, listened to what I had to say and observed Hibs closely. We were nearly wrapped up having decided that no meds were indicated at this time. Mr Hibs had had his claws trimmed but when he was returned to his cage, there was just the hint of tail-bobbing going on. Probably the stress of capture just tipped Mr Hibs over into displaying symptoms. The vet instantly opted for Plan B and gave me Baytril to be administered twice a day. I am satisfied with the examination and the course of action.
Mr Hibs is none-the-worse for his visit as far as I can tell. Capturing him twice a day will be not-fun though!

Good luck. I hope whatever the problem is with Mr Hibs is easily sorted.

You could be right re stress etc. now he’s home, has that stopped?
Always good when you trust the vet.

I can't see anything that I'd call tail-bobbing but I cannot rule it out yet. He's bouncing around like Herman at the moment so I cannot be certain. He seems perfectly fine, except for the blocked nostril and the bald patch that is filling in as far as I can tell.

I'm glad you're happy with the vet, it's very important to have confidence in them. When you don't, you wish you hadn't bothered.
When I took Billy to see the vet last year, I wasn't allowed to go in with him. So I had to pass his carry box over and then wait outside. She phoned me to say that they had to administer oxygen to him as he was breathing too hard to be examined. I was so worried that I was going to be handed back a dead budgie.

This was the first time I'd been allowed in with the vet. He got me to hold Mr Hibs whilst he had his claws clipped. It was all very cordial and friendly. The whole practice was more relaxed with none of the nonsense we've seen over the past two years.
Poor Hibs. He just tried to land on the curtain and found he couldn't grip! Bless his beautiful heart. Can't say I'm that sorry to see it, mind.

I'm curious what caused the blocked nostril? Is it just mucus from a cold?

10-15 minutes in a hot steamy bathroom in his carry cage with the hot water blasting full bore can help with respiratory symptoms and infections. It helps open up the airways and therefore helps them breathe more easily.

I'm curious what caused the blocked nostril? Is it just mucus from a cold? I'm curious, too. Only the left one is affected and coincidentally (or not) that's the side of his bald patch. I got up early this morning and grabbed Mr Hibs before any of the budgies was awake. I hate dosing him, really, really hate it.
