So next question... Mess... It's like every day is going to be sweetcorn day. With sprouts flung far and wide around my living room. Any top tips for containing the carnage?

I wish I had a good technique, but no. I've just gotten used to the mess and pick it up as I see it. I do a 'tidy' up at night and in the morning. Buddy gets the food all over his beak and then comes onto my shoulder or arm and wipes it off. I'm his napkin! My guys have learned to contain their mess and generally no longer throw the food out of the dish, they just shake their heads to get the mess off their beak.

It's great that they are eating the sprouts. I hope Toby is feeling better has been vomiting so much today.

You can also cook up some of the sprouting mix and feed it to them. I cook some and my guys get that as breakfast. Mid morning they get 1 tsp of a seed/pellet/dehydrated veggie mix. They come out of the cage around noon and get their sprouts. Mid day they get a mix of seeds and pellets. Later in the afternoon I give them more sprouts and as I put them back in the cage before bedtime, they get more sprouts. At bedtime I put 1 tsp seeds in their dish in case they get hungry overnight. Sometimes I cook up a grain mixture for them. In the morning, they also get herbs, leafy greens, whatever I have on hand.

This morning they are converted. Dived straight in.
So now all I need to do is remember to wash the sprouts every 12 hours! Woke up at 3am realising I had forgotten 😂.

Yes, it is a matter of 'getting into the habit". I let my sprouts grow for about 2-3 days and then transfer them to a small container and store it in the fridge. No further rinsing needed. As I mentioned, I sprout 2 Tbl at a time which lasts about 5-6 days. When I've got about 3 days amount left in the container, I start a new batch.
Glad they took to it so quickly!

Wow, glad they're eating the sprouts! Hope it helps them to get healthier.
Mine avoided the sprouts.

Next step: Mum’s shoulder for a quick wipe off. Looks like Loki after a drink and then a visit to the seed tray. Next step is definitely to my shoulder, because what better way is there to clean yourself?

Toby might also like a mixture of cooked grains. My guys get a mix with brown rice, millet, quinoa, a bit of oats, and I add some veggies such as split peas, carrots and spices (my guys like a bit of cinnamon). The idea is to replace the calories he would normally get from seeds with something else.

tweetiepiesmom Do you make up a batch of that and store it somehow? I am sure he would like it. He was 46g this morning which is brilliant. He's put on 2g since I last weighed him. He is still a little sleepy though.
