We are trying to tame our new baby budgie and only after 2 days then the baby sits on my finger inside the cage. It dosent fly scared around when i have my hand inside the cage. But at first it dident knew what to do when i had my finger near its feets.
I talk calm and makes bird noises while i close my eyes when it looks on me. Then it also closes its eyes and relaxes.
So when is a good time to take out the baby budgie from the cage.
And what if it dosent want to get inside the cage again. What do we then do ?
Since we dont want to chase and catch it.

What a sweet little one you have there. Do you have a name as yet? The best way to start out is getting your new bud to step up onto your finger as you are trying, but try offering him/her some millet spray in your fingers. Once Bub is eating the millet, move your hand away just far enough so it has to put a foot onto your hand to reach the millet, then a little further way so it has to step up with both feet. Keep saying step up while you are doing this, and lots of praise, good boy/girl, when they do so. Let it have a small feed, then return it to the perch and try over again. Many short sessions get better results than one or two long ones. To let budgie out for the first few times, have some of the step up lessons working already, use the smallest safe room that you can, and see how you go. It can take a lot of time and patience to get budgie back into the cage again once they have a taste of “freedom” so make sure you have time on your hands, no appointments or needs to be anywhere anytime soon when you do this. Remember that you are once again starting from scratch and that this budgie doesn’t know what to expect from you as yet so don’t be impatient and always work at the bird’s pace, not yours. Good luck!

I should also mention that this is the time to introduce fresh foods to your new bird. The earlier you start the easier it will be for both of you.

Yes this baby is very small but cute looking. Wery alive and fast moving. We dont have any names yet but we are brainstorming some names. Im thinking on "Fnug" that means "fluff" in english me and my mother takes turns to hand train it. When im at work then she makes the step up training. And when i come home then i sit near the cage and talk to it and make it step up. We tryed to offer it a salad leaf but it was withering before the baby showed interrest. Piphans was older when we got her and it was super easy to tame her. We could pick up Piphans like a stuffed toy bear and put her in the cage again. Until she learned to fly around properly, then she hated to be grapped This time we are starting over from scratch. Once the baby first sits on our finger then it wont step down again It feels comfy on our hand allready.

Today i could touch its belly and cheeks. I tryed to see if it wanted head scratches. But it dident knew what i wanted to do. SO i guess its still scared and confused about where and what and who and why. Talking to it and closing my eyes makes it relax and sleep. Its a huge step that it dosent bite or fly scared around inside the cage. I can also fill up the food bowls with a spoon in front of it without its getting scared. So either its so scared it wont move or its still a baby that dosent know anything yet. Sometimes when i try to make it step up , then it wont move at all.
How do i deal with that ?

The baby was very active in the cage today. Exploring ways to get out and even bite and yank in everything. And chirping alot.
Is it normal for a baby budgie to try and look for exit or see it it can squize it self out anywhere.
But in the evening it calms down so we can hand train. Today it was on my finger again stretching its wings and resting. We plan on taking it out next week when christmas is over. Then i also have holliday and time to be there.

Your new bird sounds like a typical baby budgie. Trying to fit through small spaces is normal, he’s wanting either some company or exercise. Sometimes it is just easier to give them what they want so that they don’t become too stressed, or try distracting him by doing some training with him at this time.

Ok i see In the day time its very active in the cage but then the gaz runs out in the evening. And it starts to sleep and relax. The step up training is going well. Today it stretched its wings on my finger and it looks on me when i speak to it. I cant wait to see what it will do at first when its out of the cage. We hope it will sit calm on my finger and look around But i think it has other plans

When you bring your baby out on your finger the first time, it will most likely stay on your finger, fly back into the cage or fly and sit on top of the cage. Budgies identify 'safety' with their cage. People think the budgie will go flying madly around the room. Sometimes that happens but rarely. Enjoy the journey taming your baby.

Today was a succes with the baby At first it would not come out of the cage but after some time then i got it out on my finger. Then it got a bit scared and started to fly around in the room. It landet on the bird rope we installed. From there i could take it back on my finger and calm the baby. After 1 h and several akward landings, then i could put it back in the cage on my hand. It actualy went more easy than we predicted.

We just call the new budgie for "baby bird" since we dont know the gender yet. But Baby bird is getting more and more use to us and to be outside its cage.
When we put the baby bird inside the cage and its done eating, then it starts to bite and yank the green mirror you can see in the cage. It makes a tantrum and its very noisy and drama to watch. Since Baby bird wants to stick its head between the littel food bowl and it looks dangerous.
But when we take it out again then it becomes relaxed. Like a a child that dosent want to be groundet. The plan is to have a open cage where it can fly in and out in the day time and leep at nights. Just like Piphans learned to do.

If you can get a good clear up close photo of Budgie’s face we should be able to give you some idea of gender. Recessive pieds can be tricky but we can only try.

I can try that tomorrow, but my phone cam isent the best quality. Its just a cheap and low end samsung model. and the baby bird needs to sit still and relax. So it will be best tomorrow evening. Today was a huge leap forward since baby bird landet on my shoulder by it self. From the playground it jumped on to my shoulder and then it kissed my cheek. Then i tryed to hold it in front of my face and it started to preen my hairs around my eye just like Piphans did.
So my mother is convinced its a female bird I then discovered a small poo on my shoulder and then i looked on the baby bird and asked if it was guilty of that dropping, then it started to squark and flew away like it was telling me "NO WAY it wasent me" My mother says im a bird whispere haha I also know a old man that has a parrot and sometimes the parrot likes me better than him. Then he calls me a parrot catcher
