Hello Everyone I am Coco, a cockatiel. I don't know how old I am, my owner thinks I'm ten months but what does he know? I'm his first cockatiel, for goodness' sake. I'm a clear pied variety and obviously the most beautiful example of the species. I was collected by the human on Saturday (9 March 2024) from my previous carer and left, in my familiar cage, in an unfamiliar room. The human has placed all manner of things around the room - a Herb Jungle, some other parrot-safe plants, climbing ladders attached the ceiling, who knows what. Wasted effort - little did the human know at first, I don't leave my cage, ever, and I probably cannot even fly now. He says he has plans to change all that - meh. My cage has had a little clean-out but as I won't leave my perch, the human is limited to what he can do right now. To ensure he knows his place, I hiss at him if he starts taking liberties and I do the full wings-outstretched bit if he doesn't take the hint. When I stretch out my wings I am the size of an ostrich and that sends him packing, I can tell you. The cage door is open most of the day now. The human tells me that is so he can reach into the cage more easily and with less disruption but I know that he secretly hopes I'll get out of the cage (so that he can get in it and take ownership - no chance, buddy-boy). The human has snuck a mineral block in near my food and water - I noticed it though. Oh yeah, there's paper pellets in the bottom of the cage instead of sandpaper. This human is out of control. He's told me his plans - change my lovely regular perch for "something better for my feet" - pfft - attach something called "vegetables" to the bars of the cage - why? - add a cuttlefish bone and reposition my swing to the middle of the cage rather than it being sensibly attached to the side of the cage. I think the human might be a little cuckoo. The human keeps trying to sweet-talk me and yesterday, I caught myself slow-blinking at him. I put a stop to all that nonsense. I also took a look at the gap left in the bars by the open cage door - the human turned around and spotted me doing it so I retreated to my perch and pretended nothing was happening, which of course it wasn't. That'll do for now but I will keep you all informed of what he gets up to next. I will try to make sure that progress is slow, or stopped all together, of course. I cannot be doing with all this anarchy.

Quick update Despite some of my best hissing, the human has destroyed my feeding area by polluting it with who knows what it is. Probably predators. The human says it's "apple" and "cavolo nero". That's means predators in proper language.

Hi Coco,
Very pleased to meet you. I'm sure you will get to like the human and all the new things he gives you.

Don't even THINK about getting a male friend, I suspect nesting not so specific as budgies, and "Cockatiels are the only cockatoo species which may reproduce by the end of their first year"!

This is Sam and Ollie, don’t worry Coco our human puts things in our cage and makes strange yum yum noises…we ignore her and get on with what ever we were doing. She keeps saying Apples are good but doesn’t seem to eat them herself so we don’t either, same with bananas (they are yellow and squidgy and we don’t recommend them). She also puts new things in the cage for us to ‘play’ on, we don’t think much of them either even if they are made especially for us so we ignore them too. She now says she is going to get us those ‘acrylic toys’ instead….we will consider those when we see them, but if they do not suit then she will have to try again. She does let us out and we love it, although she hasn’t made a way for us to get back in the cage through the top of it which is very annoying when we can’t be bothered to go down to the door. If you do go to the open door, sneak out and when he comes close squark at him cos that makes them swear and is very funny. Our human is up to something as she has given us some millet today, the last time was on something called Christmas Day when she made us jump a lot by opening funny shaped things that were covered in noisy stuff….she may be up to something be we are alert to all her tricks. When we are not asleep. Your human sounds like he wants you to be happy Coco so give him a chance, and of course if you do decide to have a flutter you can poop everywhere ! Love and chirps S and O

The human continues to disappoint. My lovely full bowl of seeds disappeared and now I am faced with seeds and some pellet things. Just so you know, I won't be eating pellets, I'll just pick around them. Ha! Your move, human. Oh, yes. The blasted creature has removed my tried & trusted plastic perches and replaced them with some wooden things. I thought he was going to wait a few days but he must have seen me stretching my foot earlier and thought I was having difficulties. It was just a slight cramp. What a drama queen! He took pics. As if that wasn't bad enough, he also filmed me. 1drv.ms/v/s!AnyoyWilEZ_Xh-IX2Afp47Q7ZUkdjg?e=4wSGaQI have no privacy.

Coco we think you are doing an excellent job of training your human. Ours is still in need of training but then she is a bit dim at times, we tell her we want carrot and she gives us broccoli, both of which you will love and if not then chuck them out of the cage cos it’s always good to see the humans scrabbling around picking stuff up.

well Coco, you are doing well with the human. He will bow down to you, in time.
I would say pretend to eat the pellets and the fruit.... then as soon as he is downstairs, don't bother... he won't notice and if he does, he will be ok as you are settling in. But you might like them. Don't show that straightaway though or he will get big headed.
If you hear a lot of noises and chirping, don't panic, it is the rest of the flock.. mostly something called budgies.. not sure what they are tbh, but there seems to be a lot.
