Just candled pair 3s eggs and pair 4s to find pair 3 have 5 eggs showing nothing and pair 4 with 4 eggs so far 3 showing fertile so not looking good for pair 3

Most first timers would do good in the second clutch. It will be a good idea to let them have a second go

So you don't think I should transfer the eggs to her? I could always transfer to pair 4 if needed I guess or remove the older chicks to hand rear

I think letting them have second clutch is better than giving them fostered eggs. The problem is mostly in mating which they figure out by time they go for second clutch.

full update: EL = egg laid. EH =egg hatched Pair 1 2nd round EL 1, 16th april EH 1, 6th may EL 2, 18th april EH 2, 7th may EL 3, 20th april EL 4, 22nd april EL 5, 24th april EL 6, 26th april EL 7, 28th april EL 8, 3rd may EL 9, 5th may the gap of eggs laid from pair 1 is due to me removing 2 cracked eggs and she replaced them Pair 2 1st round: EL 1, 5th april EH 1, 22nd april EL 2, 7th april EH 2, 23rd april EL3, 8th april EH 3, 25th april EL4, 10th april EH 4, 27th april - died EL5, 12th april EL 6, 14th april 1 egg got cracked 1 egg in there and another hatched but chick didnt make it dispite appearing healthy. Pair 3 1st round all eggs showing infertile so far will update if any appear fertile when she finished laying buut 6 eggs in total Pair 4 1st round and first time breeding. EL 1, 1st may EL 2, 3rd may EL 3, 5th may EL 4, 7th may EL 5, 8th may most showing fertile Pair 5 1st round 1st time breeding: only found eggs today so will work out lay dates if she lays another tomorrow or not. Pair 6 nothing yet Pair 7 nothing yet as you can see i seem to have classed the pairs through when theyve laid eggs rather than cage order which is silly but cant change it now.

So you should only remove the eggs when the last one is 21 days old. One never knows

Yeah but if known to be infertile then sure can be removed before hand

I and a few other breeders I know have experienced this before. Once I checked and thought that eggs are infertile and decided to remove them but didn't and two of them hatched. Another time 5 were infertile but the last one hatched. Both pairs were first timers

Ok we shall see how it goes I guess it also gives her a break from laying so far 7 eggs Also my other pair 6 the female laid an egg and ate it too silly girl she is :/ here's hoping she doesn't eat the next ones she's also a first timer her partner is not

Unfortunately once an egg eater, always an egg eater.
Are you sure she ate it because some new hens sit too tight on the egg resulting in breaking it.
