Hi everyone, I'm completely new to birds and keeping them, I was initially inspired by my uncle who use to keep varieties of Parrots before moving abroad and after a recent visit to him i want to start keeping and breeding budgies as a starting point and see where it will take me. After reading each thread on this site and taken inspirations from different plans and pictures i have drawn some initial plans for the aviary i propose to build over the next few months as i have recently finished college. Sorry the drawings may be unclear and my handwriting not my strong point and please all advice would be welcomed with open arms Lew Attachments:

Hi Lew, and welcome to the forum. I will not even try to comment on your aviary plans - leave that up to the experts - but I know you will love having budgies around. They are all such little individuals. So good luck with it all, and those with aviary knowledge will help, I am sure.

I have just got the two - indoor pets. I lost one just before Easter and hope for two more young ones later in the year. I sometimes think about an aviary, but I would miss the ruckus in the house too much!

It looks a good plan Leww I would just add a medicine and supplement cabinet, as well as a hospital cage. Mick has covered all the important points. He is right that there will be slight changes along the way and a few questions would arise. Keep us posted.

Hi BB, sorry for the initial fading of the drawings not to good on computers and Thank you Marianne for altering them i can now see they were very faded and its much appreciated. Hi Mick, thank you mick, i do intend to use insulation on most of the walls if not all of them and i plan to tile the main flight and floor boarding the rest of the shed. I would love to look at your old plan, where about's did you post it? And pictures of today's progress will be up in a minute! Thanks BB i have been thinking about a store cabinet for supplements and thinking of putting it on the side wall between the breeding cages and the nappy cages what do you think?... First question of many i'am sure the size of my "planned" main aviary only measures just over 4ft x 3ft do you think i should enlarge this and move the nappy cage or do you think for beginning it will be sufficient? Thank you everyone for your input...Lew

So here is today's work with a few pictures from before where i was preparing the tree to cut it down. The tree before it came down. Got a bit scary up there in some of the wind we was having the last few weeks, but it will be worth it! This tree was a willow i think so i plan to use some of the branches to make some perches and hopefully give a go at making some toys out of the logs for the budgies, any ideas what i could make? Turned the stump into a chair hopefully i will be able to watch the budgies from it eventually aha And finally the shed which is next to come down. More pictures to come soonish I'm sure.. Thanks, Lew

hi lew .. love the pics mate...you have been working hard.. i dont like heights so i couldn't have gone up there ...fair play to you .... as for my plans ...there not on here .. ..but a step by step build ..is .... . just go to the search button .....at the top of the page.... click on it ....then type in ....my aviary build...in the space provided... and you will find it.... the first pic is a pile of blocks.... then if you like.... type in .....my outer flight build ... and that's there as well.. .

Hi Mick, Cheers mate sure have, all be worth it hopefully when i have got the budgies in... Aha yeah was a bit high but oh well had to be done and didn't want to pay hundreds for a professional to do it aha.. I found them looks really good setup and has gave me a few ideas..If you don't mind me asking how much did that cost for the materials?...i have been thinking of having an outside flight but we will see how things go with the shed first... Bit of your advice needed mick, do you think a 51" x 36" flight is big enough or will it need to be bigger? Thanks...Lew
