i would go for concrete my self for both... the aviary and the outer flight all on the same level...you can do it is 2 goes...to spread the cost ... and another thing....
very important....
i would wire the bottom .....of the aviary before you put it up.... it stops rats mice chewing there way in ....
it needs to be half inch by half inch .... any thing bigger they will get in through it ... of corse you could lay... patio slabs if you like... thats a good way aswell...
just harder to get level .... well if your like me that is ...lol.... both ways are just as good as each other....
mine is on slabs but they are on solid concrete ...witch was already there.... so easy to get level plus i got Luke to do it for me ...lol..

I do think concrete would be the best as it will not move, though slabbing may be a cheaper option, but i think i will use concrete, most important factor is it wont move... but the outer flight may be delayed until i have more funds... I am planning using mesh underneath as i have saw it on many of different feeds, but i was unsure on the size of the mesh so thank you for clearing that up for me ... Do you know anywhere that sells good mesh at a decent price? Kind Regards, Lew

I have cleared it up more since that but not been able to get photos... Thanks BB try my best, ah i have had a few mored ideas with the flights I'm planning on having two now, the original one at the front and then an additional one for the baby's or may be used for separating sexes along the side wall to the right of the previous picture (opposite the door) however i need to measure it all up again after de-rooting the area aha, and il draw some more plans up too... Aha yeah could do with a lick of paint mick we will see what the budget says.. and yeah i suppose i have already made a few changes in my head already... And Thank you daniel i will have a look... UPDATE: Haven't updated you all recently as the weather has kept me at bay and unable to do anymore but today the base was completed which measures 10ft x 12ft. I have ordered a 10ftx8ft shed as building it myself would not be much of a financial difference and also with this saves me a lot of time as I am back at college now. However i still plan to fit the shed out myself... As I am back at college now, studying Design I would like to ask everyone what problems they face when feeding, storing seed, cleaning, etc. Also what objects you think could be redesigned to help you out when caring for your budgies...I would appreciate any feedback massively..As i aim to use this within my project. Thankyou, Lew..

It is looking great Lew Just make sure that the shed is perfectly placed on the hard base and in future there is no possible access for rodents. There is tons of information on Barrie's Budgerigar's. Let us know if you need anything in specific. It would be nice to see your project once it is done.

you certainly got to the root of the problem .. ;D..my word them roots ....were massive .. ..you haven't had it easy have you .... . but the hard part is done now .....and looks great ..... ..8x10 is a good size .... looking forward to seeing it in place ....it might be cheep er to get sheet metal to put under the base....( in between the supports) ...before putting it up rather than wire.. but wire is easy er to do ...as cutting can be done with wire nippers ...what ever is easy est for you .. ps ....just had a thought you could carefully remove the bottom supports attach the metal sheets and reattach the supports ...the rats / mice wouldn't get through that ..... ...

Thanks BB and Mick for the feedback..
I am laying 8ft concrete fence posts across the flooring for the shed to stand on to ensure base is raised and level, to reduce risk from rodents. I am currently planning on using mesh underneath as it is easier for me to get and cut, but thanks for the tip mick... Shed is being delivered sometime this week so hopefully more pictures coming soon then the real work starts aha... I was wondering as you two keep and breed Budgies, what could be designed or developed within your birdroom/cages to make it easier for you to manage? All replies suitable Thanks Lew
