Marianne can they eat oats like dried porridge oats? Yes they can, as long as it doesn't have any added salt or sugar.

Marianne can they eat oats like dried porridge oats? Mine have never shown any interest in rolled oats. It is just not the same as far as they are concerned.

They like a high perch or swing to sleep on, they do not have nests unless breeding. Nooooooo she is not a bad girl just joins in with noises Hope this helps until someone else with more experience comes on.

As long as she has a high perch and is not in a draft too hot, or its too light she will be fine sleeping.

Basal does the blinking game with me quite a bit now. If I manage to "pet" him, mostly along the cheek area, he closes his eyes, but is this because I'm touching his face (scared) or because he is enjoying it? He doesn't move away so I'm assuming he's liking it, like I'm preening him. But he only allows this on one side and pulls away if I try on the other.

aamm, budgies don't need a specific place to sleep, like the finches do; they don't need something to snuggle into. Whatever you do, don't try to provide her with anything like this; she may just mistake it for a nest and you will end up with a broody, very frustrated little budgie.

today i bought bigger cage for my budgie . she shows no interest ! but in long term we can add a buddy for her . i am very curious about this : why she won't drink in front of me ? if i watch her she freeze or make it look like she is not drinking //i can feed her millet by hand // so i am not a treat to her but my guess is drinking is maybe for budgies is a sign of weakness ?? so she doesn't want to show it ?

It has taken 4 weeks for Pippin to drink in front of me so don't worry. They are very young remember

As they are a prey species, in the wild they have to go down to water holes to drink and are very vulnerable to attack so are very cautious when it comes to drinking in front of you. If you have the water low down try placing it up high . They usually drink when you are not watching

Quick question if anyone gets to it. I didn't feel an entire new thread would be necessary for this. The thought came from the person asking about hand taming two birds and a few comments were that they could both become untame without enough dedicated time to keep them both tame. Is there a certain amount of time that's good in order to keep a budgie tame? I only have Basal and as soon as I'm home I'm interacting with him, handling him, etc. I have class, at the most, for 5 hours (that's if a lab section goes to full time). My internship in the summer I will be doing 2-3 10 hour days, but the rest of the week I'll be home interacting with him, and when I get home on those days. He will never be lonely between my husband and I, as he will be home before I am on those 10 hour days.
