its that time of year and i absolutely hate fireworks. Dont get me wrong i dont mind them being at a big event, but they should be banned from being used at residential places. I cant even go out my back door to check my budgies without getting hit on the head from falling debris.my parrot is panicing and my budgie hen who is about to have her first chick hatch monday is sitting in the cage with her mate and not in the box.i have the radio on loud until half eleven and also the light. sue

I agree Sue, it's not even bonfire night, yet we have had loud fireworks from 5 PM and they're still going off. Our youngest dog is beside himself, we haven't been able to console him all night. One of our cats is petrified too. Fortunately our birds have been quiet but they are all inside.

I have been trying to calm down my emus and rhea running frantically round the field. My chickens were terrified and the owl was flying round her pen going nuts. My dogs have slept through it all because I left music on for them. God knows how the parrots and budgies are, I am frightened to go near the aviary as I dont want to upset them anymore than they already will have been by the fireworks. Hope all your budgies are ok, hope mine are too! its not because I'm getting old and boring, just concerned about my birds

Scottste how are your animals today, what about your budgies and parrots as well? Mick i think the bangs are getting bigger each year, such a waste of money.i wish i had money to waste like some. Ruby5 our poor animals have to suffer for a pretty colour in the sky and a big bang. As i said i dont mind big organised displays in big open spaces.today my birds seem settled but my parrot is a little spooked at the slightest bang we make in the house. Sue

I hope your poor little chick hasn't died. I've never thought that fireworks should be sold to the public. If we want to see fireworks we go to an organised display. My budgies are fine but that's probably because they're all inside, with the telly or radio on. Anyway they are plenty used to loud noises with my kids yelling and singing all the time! I hope everyone's animals all cope ok until it's over...

Fireworks seemed to have stopped for now.hopefully only tomorrow to put up with. Sue

Keep us posted sue, I hope the chick will hatch tomorrow. We've had fireworks again tonight, loud bangs as I write this and we've got to go through it all again tomorrow.

Most Australian states banned selling fireworks to the general public a long time ago, except for organised public displays.
We just have to deal with people having parties in their backyards till all hours because the weather is so warm at night.

We definitely should follow the australians.we've always been a bit slow on laws in this country. i dont think the parties would bother me so much as i have to use ear plugs at night anyway Went into the aviary this morning hoping for that chick to have hatched . it hasnt hatched. I will leave them for a few days to make sure. I know it went cold last night and the temperature in the aviary dropped to 8°c but i' m not holding any hope for the poor little chick.last egg due on the 7th but i think it will be the same. sue
