[qu ote author=ruby5 board=lounge thread=4591 post=61740 time=1352322989]Our budgies and one cockatiel share the lounge with our African Grey, Charlie. He's not bothered with the other birds unless they're being really noisy but then he shouts at them "will you shut up" lol. At the moment the birds are moulting and I'm fed up cleaning up feathers Outdoor aviarys have a plus side! What sort of parrot have you got Sue?[/quote] I have an african grey lesley but she is so frightened of feathers even her own.if she sees one floating around she panicks and if she can she will hide under my top, if not she will flutter about.shes not very good with change or people she doesnt know.having my budgies in the aviary was the best thing as i didnt have to worry about budgie dust or feathers, then i went and had a parrot. talk about parrot dust and the mess its unbelieveable, but i wouldnt change her for the world. Compared to budgies Sue Greys are really messy but aren't they lovely characters, they're so intelligent. Ours actually belonged to my son but he's never liked males and he bonded with me so when my son left home Charlie stayed. When we go away in the caravan he comes with us in his travel cage and he loves it. If he can't see me we have a game were we shout "yoo-hoo" to each other

Nina goes on holiday with us in her travel cage as well,if we left her at home she starts chewing her flight feathers. They are characters arent they, theres never a dull moment around an african grey. I just wish she wasnt so frightened of everything but i suppose it takes time to trust things. sue

How old is nina sue? Charlie is nearly 6 and a couple of years ago he started to nibble his feathers, he wasn't pulling them out just cutting them. My son had been watching a programme on parrots plucking their feathers and the vet said it was down to diet and no matter how much you paid for parrot food it wasn't good enough. I still give him a good quality seed mix but I make him a cake with peppers, peas, sweetcorn, eggs, oats, cheese, garlic powder and a few drops of cod liver oil, he loves it and since he's been eating this he has stopped biting his feathers, he still gets fresh veg with it and his favourite which is grapes!! Charlie doesn't like change though either, if you walk past his cage carrying something he doesn't recognise he'll scream or if we've got visitors he's quiet. I don't think people believe me sometimes when I tell them what he's said or done, so it's nice to hear about nina

That sounds like a nice recipe for him.could you tell me how to make it? If you dont mind.nina is 28 months old.we had only just had her when we went away and she started to bite her flights, but it didnt help the breeder had cut her other flights to stop her flying.shes had her full feathers since she moulted last and she looks so beautiful. Nina and charlie are so much alike. Something small like a fly or even a black clock i put on the wall and she will back away or hide.she hates people with hats, she screams really loud and as you say when someone strange comes in she goes quiet but when they step out the front door she starts walking again.they are so funny.has charlie ruinex any of your furniture because nina has destroyed my blinds,my settee,my coffee table and even all three of my dressing gowns. Shell we start a new thread lesley so we can carry on talking about our parrots instead of using this thread? Shell i name it,' how alike our african greys are' Suee
