Aw. Budgies can be so naughty. We used to send Roswell in as the ice breaker and "welcome wagon".. These days It seems to work to just release the buds into the room when all the others are out. First of all the new buds are ignored and keep to themselves. Then One of the braves ones, usually Sky will "buzz" them a few times. Slowly.. over just a day.. they are singing together from a distance as a flock.. Mine are an accepting bunch I guess. Poor old Roswell the Welcome Wagon. At least he's not the Town Bike.

Exactly the same for me, i let newbie out when they are all out and it just works, as you say though marianne i think mine also are an accepting bunch, they never seem to mind who rocks up and moves in .

The thing is I remember Smudge doing exactly the same to Bluey, but probably more so. I keep telling her to be kind, as she was the same ...... again, not listening! Smudge flew to me this morning and came with me into the bathroom, and then bedroom, before flying off to land on top of the curtains, so come on, Mango, we will take advantage of this. At least today, Smudge wasn't being beaky ..... although I did have to put Mango away and allow Smudge to "escape" after about half an hour. I thought with the amount of exercise Smudge was having to do, it might be best to give her a break after she started to get hot. I might have to do this every morning, if only to get Smudge moving a bit more. That is about all we have managed this morning so far - mingling time to come once I finish here.

Update is that Mango has had time with the others in their cage, and in hers ..... this was easier this morning for a small dose of sun, and they also had time out in my bedroom while the "housework" (cage-cleaning) was being done. I have to move the terrible trio out when I clean their cage as the easiest place to do this is on the deck, and they insist on flying to the cage whenever I try to wheel it outside ..... no good, open doors, goodbye budgies! So! Things are getting more relaxed, but not brilliant, but the best thing is that Mango goes off and plays or eats while the others are still looking stunned and wondering what has happened. Good for her, I say. But she and I are spending some quality time together with the horrible heat we are having ...... in the aircon just the two of us...... it is lovely. She goes to sleep on my stomach, tries to bite the words off my book, loves to walk the tightrope of the teething rings strung together (I'll have to recruit someone else for photos of that!), plays with my earrings, and is getting the idea of flying to my finger or the perch when I call her. She is great!! And too cute for words.

I am sure things will change a bit once she is in with the other full time, but that is going to be a while coming, as they aren't allowed their seed until later in the day. For a growing bub, I can't do that, so that gives me plenty of Mango-time. Marianne Marlow, I am sure you would be the same; remembering you have taken both your girls on as older adults. That's brave!

Well, my little girl got to be out in the big room this morning for the first time, and loving it! Got my paper "curtains" up, and away she went. For a new flier, she is remarkably sensible in her approach to new spaces, flitting along, rather than full-speed, and hovering until she is sure of where to land. We had one incident with a mirror, in a place the others never go to, but no damage, and she is getting to know the lay-out of the rooms already. I put her back into her own cage after a couple of hours free time; she has a quick guzzle of seed and then starting climbing all over the cage to come out again, so out she came and has made herself quite at home on top, and inside, the main cage. None of the others are being overly friendly towards her, but she does seem to be a little more tolerated. She will definitely sleep well this afternoon!

Sounds like she had a ball bless her. I had forgotten how well they fly, my lot either cant or wont but Chilli is a spitfire ace Incredible how they duck and dive, he even fly's straight back into the cage, how they see the hole at 60mph i don't know . So glad she is mingling
