Megabac comes to mind, most birds carry this disease but it only raises it's ugly head when the bird is highly stressed. The new bird will be stressed when taken from a flight with it's nest mates to a small cage on it's own, this is the time these underlying health issues can pop up.

I'm not in the least bit offended, that's why I asked the question. I just had a thought that seeing as Whiskers is about three year old maybe things would have shown up by now. Is keeping them both in separate rooms on the same level of the house sufficient, or would I have have one upstairs and one downstairs.?
Thank you Corie & Hezz. Gotta go I'm on a mission today.

It will be sort of a hard month for you and birds, but all worth it. Good luck

I imagine the stress of the move could bring something on?
if that is the case, when would it show up, if say Whiskers has anything.. would it take the whole month to appear?

Age doesn't have anything to do with whether the bird could be carrying something, the same as some humans can be carriers of certain bacteria and not have a problem until something else upsets the balance. And it won't necessarily happen straight away. This is why we recommend a month as a quarantine period. At opposite ends of the house will be fine, but different floors would be even better. It needs to work for you as well. And no cheating!

There will be no cheating I assure you Hezz. They are in different rooms on the same level. I think Whiskers would begine to pine for company if he was upstairs away from noise knowing there was some-one around. I will have to be mindful to close the door when Joey is out of his cage, although he has never ventured into the kitchen. He may do to see what the other budgie noise is.

Chances are that Joey will go into the kitchen now, if they can hear another bud they just cant help themselves . Just one other thing and im sure you do anyway but its important to wash your hands, and nose , after each time you have contact with each of them.

Yes Skysmum I am being meticulous with cleaning myself. It would be no use keeping them separate and then transferring anything on me. I have very little actual contact with Joey other than on the finger and breathing on him. I am trying my best to close the door behind me. I do this in winter, but have not been doing it this summer. I'll be carefull with them both, promise.

I am sure, and we all make mistakes. Be assured the Joey will want to explore the budgie noise .............. whooo, hang on though, this is Joey we are talking about! Predict the unpredictable.

Very responsible OP, sometimes it's hard to get a gauge of how important this is. Could you imagine if i didn't quarantine with 80 budgerigars, i could lose the lot and i have heard this happen.

From all the readings I have done both on here and Barrie's blog plus a few more I do realize the responsibility that I have towards the buds especially Joey the resident. I don't want anything untoward to happen to either of the little fellows.
Hezz, you had it one when you said we are talking about Joey wanting to investigate, he doesn't. There has been plenty of calling between them, Joey answers the call even starts the session sometimes but He has made no effort to find the source of the other calling bird. It's the same when I have watched the videos on the forum. He will join in immediately but has never flown over to look at the monitor or investigate. Whiskers would without a doubt investigate. Everytime they start calling Whiskers is looking towards the other room.
I have been keeping a close eye on Whiskers as I noticed his poop was quite small and wet yesterday morning. I had changed his feeding station and was pleased when I saw him feed. I had also changed his water supply from a seed pot at the bottom of the cage to a silo type. I marked the tube with Red felt tipped pen. He did not drink at all through the day. So I put some water in his usual container and he did drink from that, so I left it there overnight. His poops are much better today, more normal. Small but he is small, I am used to seeing the currant sized things of Joey's. You can actually here them hit the bottom of the cage sometimes. If it hits the grid you can definitely hear it.
I think Whiskers has got over the journey and seems settled, not bad to say it's only a day. I just hope he doesn't start to miss Geoff too much. I am trying to share my time between both my friends.
Thank you both for the concern and stressing how important quarantine is. I asked the question at the beginning of this thread because Whiskers is not a chick and has lived as a solitary bud for up to 3 years, so other than the upset I expected from such a traumatic time he should have been free from the real nasties.
However I will follow your expert advice and keep them in separate rooms for a good while, and observe whiskers.

Good thinking, OP Once back from Pet Market, I always change and take shower before going to birds.

Oh I don't shower each time, but I can see your reasoning there. I have given the cage quite a good clean, but would like to do it a bit more. Still I trust this FS10 to do it's job. The cage and everything that Geoff gave me was very clean. He cared about Whiskers I can tell.

I spend a lot of time there, with all sorts of birds and animals, all not in very good condition.
