I do, and did, understand, OP. You are still a dill, though. birdguhl, what is the healing colour? I should know, but haven't practised yoga in a class for too long (just my own version). stace, his whole foot is encased as well. He is getting about very well. I hope that by using this "thing" as a crutch rather than a foot, he will be better ready to adapt to a stump if the worst comes to worst. sarah*glittergirl2212, samwiseg, he has been really good today, so no need for special adjustments for the night. Unfortunately he didn't eat up his meds-with-food mush so had to revert to the old hold-and-probe style of administering his needs. Tonight I made use of an extra pair of hands, but for the rest of the week it is only me. My vet has more faith in me than I do, where this is concerned.

You do yourself an injustice Hezz, this brave wee soldier couldn't be in better hands.

Ah, jellybean, thank you for that vote of confidence, but I feel that when it comes to giving meds, I am much better at the theory than the prac. There does always seem to be a residual about his cheek feathers when I finish .......

Wonderful news Hezz, he must be feeling happier/better if he is eating properly. Well done both of you. Still sending good health vibes, from all of us here, budgies, chooks and lil' ol' me.

You are such a good boy, Spyro. Make your mom happy... keep eating and stay calm. Your leg will be better before you know it.

Well after an unsettled start to the evening he seemed to settle down even if it was perched on the ruler. I have to use something to keep the covering cloth away from the water fountain or the water seeps up into the cloth, so on last view that was were he was perched, after numerous attempts to move him off, he simply went straight back on, and by the pile of poop, that is where he stayed last night. Tonight I will be better prepared and organise him a small container of water for the night. skysmum, I have seen him nibbling at the plaster, or at the feathers around the top of the plaster. The times I have seen this is when he has been preening himself so he seems o be trying to fix that ugly thing that isn't supposed to be there. I haven't seem him worry it today but am looking out for signs that he is distressed by it. So far, so good. This morning he has had some of every food in his cage: millet, seed, grass and eggfood, so I'm much happier about that. And he has been much more settled with the others around as well. Yesterday he was not. He was trying to join them, flying up the walls of the cage etc and really quite agitated, but today he is much calmer. Keep those good thoughts coming, please. Awww glad it isn't worrying him too much, fingers crossed, last thing he needs is an Elizabethan collar as well, i have seen buds with these . Soo pleased he is eating a bit more too, still sending vibes .

I loathe the syringe drop in mouth method for administering meds. Unless you've done it many times before, it's really difficult to get it in their mouth properly without most of it dribbling out.

I had to do that with my Holly before she passed, but she was riddled with disease. Anyway, as I was saying, when I did this it was a giant pain in the rear. Even with her being so weak, she still struggled so and a lot of her meds ended up on her cheeks!

The only thing I 'can' do is syringe luckily as Bailey won't let me hold him, but he thinks it's a toy so is happy to have it in his beak.

Bailey is a really good boy! Every budgie should think of a syringe as a toy to have in his beak. It would make life so much easier.

It took practise first, playing with it in front of him. Lets hope I dont need to use it, if we do go to the vet this week as that might have been a fluke last lot of meds last year

He is so light, has lost too much weight. So while he is eating, I would be much happier to see him gobbling food down. I added some oats to his seed last night and they went down a treat, but would like to see him eat more today. He probably feels that as he isn't moving much he doesn't need to eat much.

If you can't get him to eat but a little bit, try getting him to eat some egg food. Boy it put the grams on my birds, quick. I quartered the original recipe, (original recipe courtesy of CuteLittleBirdiesAviary) and this is what I got: 1 hard boiled egg 1/4 c couscous, or other whole grain 1/8 c flax seed 1/4 c pellets 1/2 c veggies I usually take off the shell from the egg's membrane and crush it and mix it in also. Taking it off the membrane while it's still on the egg is soooo much easier than having the egg peeled already. It's still kind of a pain and I can only ever get the shell of in small bits. So it takes a while, but I feel it's worth it in the long run. If you want the original recipe, here is the link for it: www.cutelittlebirdiesaviary.com/egg-food--our-aviary-recipe-step-by-step.htmlMake sure you change it and give him fresh every 3 hours so it doesn't spoil. My whole flock love it. If he likes it even half as much as mine do, he should start gaining weight again. It makes enough for my flock of 7 the eat in about 3 days, with a little bit left over. When he does start gobbling it down like crazy, I would suggest adding Booster from Heal-x to it. It took a few minutes for my birds to realize it was the same stuff they'd been eating, but they are right back to gobbling it down again. Hope this helps out a little. Good luck and wonderful healing thoughts and prayers your way!!!
