Hi everyone; I know most of you aren't in the UK, but I am posting this everywhere.
This evening around 8pm, Snow flew out of the front door while I was dealing with a cold caller. I had thought he was shut in the living room, but the wind from the open front door must have blown it open and he flew out.
My sister and I have searched around my home a good three hours, with no joy until it became too dark. I have put Snow's cage outside with millet and his favorite toys in the hopes he's still around and he will see the cage as familiar and safe.
I am completely at my wits end, I don't know what else to do.
I have read that escaped birds will often spend a week or two around their home. Does any one know if this is true? I'm hoping he is tucked up somewhere safe for the night and will continue my search as soon as the sun comes up in the morning.
In the mean time, any advice on methods of locating or getting him home would be really helpful. I can't emphaise enough how much Snow means to me, and how beloved he is. I'm really beside myself with worry.
If any of the members in the UK do know anyone who lives in the Hove/Brighton area of the UK, please could you spread the word to them?
Thank you.

Oh no, I can only imagine. Good thing is, sun is up early and I have read they do stay nearby, so fingers crossed.
Good luck and I hope you find Snow in the morning

Oh no. Doorknock all your neighbours. Put fliers up on lampposts. Call local vet/pet stores nearby as it's where people report found birds.
Call him out in your yard. I have a really loud bird-like call I've taught Boo exactly in case this ever happens to me.

I have family in Brighton, I will let them know via facebook. Thank you so much. My sister is printing off some lost posters when she's at work tomorrow, because she has a colour printer there. I keep going out to check if he's gone into his cage. It started raining here really hard. I'm worried sick.

Sorry to hear that Blustersquall, are there trees nearby? I'm sure that is where they would fly to. I can imagine my two would not fly far in one go as they tire too easily. The very best of good luck in locating Snow.

I tried the local park which has some tall trees, but I couldn't see anything and I didn't hear him call. I live in quite a built up area so that's the only place with trees, except for those that run alongside the train tracks which I can't get to for safety reasons.
I've given my name and number to the local pet shop in case someone finds him.
I'm really loosing hope though. I've had less than two hours sleep, was up until around 4am looking for him and started again about 6am today. I don't know what else I can do. He could be anywhere.
What worries me a lot is that there are A LOT of cats in the area (and by A LOT, I mean that basically 80% of the people in this area have a cat), crows, seagulls and other birds that would make mince meat out if a lost and confused budgie.

Gosh, I'm so sorry, I know how much Snow means to you. Please don't lose heart just yet, they can be tough wee things & maybe someone's found him & taken him in. We've taken in 2 strays in the past & spent ages looking for their owner (to no avail). Inform any local vets or rescue centres so they're aware. In the end we took them to the rescue centre but it was several weeks between rescuing them & taking them there as we wanted to try & find the owners 1st, so even if you don't hear any news immediately don't give up hope, someone may be doing the exact same thing as us. Thinking of you & dear Snow so much. <3

Also, could be worth playing any budgie recordings you can get off the Internet as if he hears a budgie he may be reassured & come & investigate. Do you have another budgie? (I think you got one didn't you?) If the weather's suitable, maybe take him in his cage outside to hopefully lure Snow in?

Hi everyone!
A quick note to say, SNOW HAS BEEN FOUND.
He was found today 06/08/2014, in, would you believe it, my niece's play school. I so many people on facebook and twitter sharing my lostparrot ad, and my sister even printed lost budgie posters for me. I had several vague sightings and I was so close to loosing hope! But he was spotted by one of the children and a teacher was able to get him and walked him, on his arm, to the pet shop and they contacted me. He's home, back in his home cage with his toys, fresh water and some millet to make him feel at home. And the first thing he did was go to his favorite spot and settle down for a nap.
Considering my lack of sleep in searching for him, I think I deserve one too!
Thank you, everyone, for replying and you excellent advice which I will be keeping a log of, if this ever occours again. I hope is never does. I was utterly distraught last night, practically inconsolable. Having him back, I am over joyed and so thankful to the powers that be for returning him to me.
