Good news for Phinny; not so good news for Bez. Unfortunately with most laboratory machinery there is a minimum requirement, and if that volume isn't there, the test cannot be done. Hope all goes just as well next week for you both.

Bezukhov gave his 2nd blood sample today. Let's hope it will be adequate enough to do the tests. He's more woozy than last time & is still in the travel cage, an hour later (he was out within 10 minutes last time).
The vet said he did make a bid for freedom just as the anaesthetic wore off & I think she was impressed with his derring-do intention, even if he was too groggy to get far...

A little update... The last blood sample Bezukhov supplied gave a 'mixed bag' result. We ceased all medication & since then he has just had aloe vera (detox version) in his water, topped up with extra milk thistle. The thinking was to make sure his liver was functioning at its best & hopefully this will help with the seizures. A follow up blood test & x-ray was to be done approx. 6 weeks later, which coincided with xmas. Last week I was thinking I had better organise his next appt & was wondering if it was worth delaying as his last proper seizure had been the end of Oct. Anyway, he went & had THREE seizures on Friday. Granted they were so minor that had I not been looking at him I may not have noticed even with being in the same room, but they still happened. My heart sank into my boots. My understanding is that seizures may not necessarily be 'cured' but could be 'managed' so the longer he goes without one, the better.... So, I had a chat with the vet today & he is to be booked in for another blood test & x-ray next week some time. He is otherwise perfectly fine. Very good in fact. On Friday, in between the 2 seizures that happened just 15 minutes apart, he managed to have a good run around & flirt with Cagney. It's very confusing knowing something is not right yet looking at him & he seems so well. BTW, when the vet was talking about possible medication routes to go down she acknowledged that Bezukhov clearly had "his own agenda". I thought that accurately summed up his attitude during previous medicating episodes!

Oh, poor little B; poor you. And he has been getting along so well. I hope you and the vet can work out a managing routine for the poor little guy. Fingers and feathers crossed for you both. xx

Poor little Bezukhov. Hope all goes well next week at the vet. He does have his own agenda and he is sticking to it. What a trooper!

His own agenda. *Giggle giggle*. I can imagine how you felt seeing him fitting like that.

Another update. Bezukhov had his follow up x-ray & blood test last week. The x-ray showed positive things. He no longer has Air Sacculitis & apparently his liver outline is 'beautiful'.
Today we got the results of the blood test back & once again it is a mixed bag. If I am honest, I don't really understand what the vet told me, even when she sent me an email with the information!
She said his protein levels have increased into the normal range. Good. There is an issue with his gallbladder function. Bad.
As for medication, she has to take into account that Bezukhov has "Poor Patient Compliance" (PPC). In other words, he has his own agenda. We will continue with the aloe vera detox & milk thistle in his water but also give him other medication orally every day or at worse, every other day, bearing in mind the PPC problem.

That sounds like good news for Bezukhov. "Poor Patient Compliance?" Does that mean he is a difficult patient that does not always follow doctor's instructions? If that's true, then I have PPC too. Be a good boy, Bezukhov!

That's exactly what it means, budgiefriend. LOL!!! Oh, silly B! Behave; if you only knew how much help you were getting, maybe you would appreciate it, the help, and those doing the helping, a bit more. But sweetpea, at least there have been improvement. Keep up your good work, even if the patient doesn't appreciate it. B!!!

That sounds mostly positve. I do love PPC term. I think they've all got a touch of that, some more than others and then at the far end of the scale is B! I hope he continues to improve x
Ps 300th post!

I am resurrecting this old thread as it was about the medication regime Bezukhov was put on last February. Since then, he has had medication every 2 days. The good news is that in the last 4 months I have not witnessed any 'episodes'. After a chat with the vet last Friday, it was agreed to reduce his medication. One was to be dropped completely & the other to be given every 3 days. I went against the vet advice slightly & thought for the first week, instead of dropping the 1st med completely I would reduce it by half but give every 3 days with the 2nd med. Anyway, I can't tell you how disappointed I am to have witnessed an 'episode' from Bezukhov this evening. It was only brief but succeeded in putting my heart right down into my boots. I have emailed the vet but in the meantime, I am putting him back on the original every other day regime.
