Some (but not all) of Brodie's poos look like this today, as though the whole seed has gone through him, what could it be? Is it something to worry about? He's been a bit odd this week, not eating much at all, not keen on millet etc & at times, rather quiet (- I've seen him napping several days in a row, I've only seen him snoozing a handful of times during his whole life -) but most of the time, his usual, chirpy, bouncy, playful self. If I hold his seed pot up to him, he'll eat from it. Yesterday he ate more & went down to the pot himself quite a few times. We had a week at my parents' & came back to the flat last thurs which also means him moving back into his Hagen cage so we wondered if he was just adjusting to that but obviously the seed in poo is an additional worry. I've been weighing him more & he dropped from 59 to 50g over the course of a week & the last 2 days has been at 48g.

PS he's also begun a rather sudden, full on moult, he's dropped so many feathers in the past 2 days.

That is not a good thing to see, he needs to see a vet ASAP. Losing weight and seed passing undigested could mean PDD or Giardia.

Take care - some things can be transmitted to humans: See this link as a precaution. Definitely off to the vet I would be.

Thanks, vet appointment this afternoon. I'm happier knowing he'll get seen to. It's so hard to know with him as most if the time he appears v well but his behaviour has been just not quite right for him this week despite all the bouncing & playing & the poos are worrying (he's done more normal poos this morning but they're on the green side), mum will take samples with her of them. I do so worry about my baby! And thanks for the info Learner.

Hahaha, so relieved, he's not ill, he's a HORMONAL TEENAGER!! Vet said he's coming into breeding condition & several things have triggered it: his age (approx 19months), the move back up to the flat (which also means shorter days for him as I go to bed early, at my parents he goes to bed at their bedtime), the clocks going back (along with a run of extra gloomy days this week, we're up in soggy Cumbria) & his weight loss/ gain/ loss from his diet/ extra flying practise. It also explains the very sudden, very major moult he's having, which was a puzzle as he's just finished a pretty major moult.
We need to increase the daylight for him so getting a uv bulb which will be on a timer for 10hours a day. So happy he's not poorly. The seed thing she said was him regurgitating then swallowing again, I don't understand how that means it doesn't still get digested though? I've never seen him regurgitate. He savaged the vet too, apparently she said 'OW' quite politely!
She also said a bird his size should be no lower than 42g which is helpful. Thanks for all your advice.

I'm pleased things are OK. Was this an avian vet?

Yes, she specialises in birds of prey. Our last vet was hopeless but this one seems to really understand birds. She did say if he's still acting odd by early Dec or drops below 42g to take him back & she'd wash out his crop.

Glad things have gone OK for you. I didn't know you had a bird of prey though.

I still feel a bit worried about the seed in the poop. Especially with the weight loss. I can't remember if Brodie has been ill before? Something in the back of my mind tells me there was something wrong a while back?
Have you got any real apple cider vinegar to put in his water? I put a few drops into 100mls of water.

I hoped someone else would feel the same as me about this. It's just not something that happens without cause.

That is good news, Starrymist; I am sure Brodie (and you) are in good hands. I dearly hope this is the end of his worries.
