Hello guys! I just got myself a budgie again - after some years break - a few days ago and I'm curious about what gender he/she might be. If someone can give input on the mutation also that would be great. On a side note: The wings are cut but it wasn't my decision (that's how it's done in this area).. I do know the wings were completely white where cut off. Here are some pics (hoping it works as I can't preview):

Beautiful little birdie. My amateur guess is a boy. Does he/she have two different coloured tails? I'm not sure I have seen that before.

Thank you Yes, he/she does seem to have both white and the dark colour in the tail, although when the feathers are sitting "normally" it's white on the backside.

A lovely cock bird. I am guessing a dominant pied, but what the base colour is, I am not sure ........ is he mauve or grey ........ and he may even be cinnamon ........ hard to tell as the photos are a little ambiguous. That "wild" tail feather I have seen in one of my own .... an opaline cobalt spangle, but unfortunately I cannot remember which part of the bird's genetics it was that leads to these odd tail feathers. @corie, where youuuuuuu ??

I would have said boy if Hezz hadn't beat me to it! That tail feather is interesting. He's a gorgeous bird!

Very nice cock bird. Are you going to let his wings grow back so he can fly?

Thank you for the help. Fell in love with his colours when I saw him!
And yes, I do plan to let his wings grow back. It actually pains me a bit to see him flapping where he should be flying. At what age do they grow back?

At what age do they grow back? What a beautiful boy you have there . It takes a very long time im afraid . I bought one who had had one wing cut and it took at least 6 months to grow back prob longer.

That is funny.. He does indeed have both a white and, I think, a dark blue tail feather. It even seems to be random when the white or the dark feather is "on top". The budgies in the thread look beautiful though!
