We have an egg! Yes. I went into the bird house yesterday evening and Mildred was roosting in her nest box, and didn't come out, which she normally does, so I was secretly hoping. I went in this morning and we had two eggs but one was broken, and had a nice bright yellow yolk. I removed the broken egg and it was warm, so I hope she just sat heavy on it. I've kept a careful eye on the other egg and it has remained intact, so I'm just hoping she isn't an egg eater, and had squashed the broken one. At one point, Mildred came out of her box and Tom didn't wait a minute before he was doing his thing with her, and then she popped back in her box bless her, probably for a sleep Tom started jumping around like a mad thing, clearly happy with himself. I know it's their first go at this parenting malarkey (and mine, lol), but so far Mildred has remained with her eggs, and Tom continues to feed her and pops in to see her. More updates to follow Daz

Oh, hope all goes well. One of my hens is a layer and I just wish I had the room to allow her to follow the eggs through to fruition. Mildred seems to know what to do; isn't instinct a wonderful thing???

Good luck to all concerned, human and budgie. It is wonderful that they seem to know what to do. They have to in the wild and you can't train them. I love it.

Still only one egg, but she remains firmly seated on it bless her. I will candle it in 5 days to see if it is fertile.

Still only one egg from Mildred. However, of the four that I recently bought, one pair (Brian and Mim) have also laid an egg!!!! Mildred remains firmly seated on hers, and Mim is doing likewise.

(Mango laid egg number 8 last night. This one rolled out of the cage, or got pushed out.)

I found two more eggs in the main area of Mildred's cage, one was broken but the other landed in a soft poop and saved it, so I carefully wiped off said mess and placed it back into the concave, and she immediately sat on it with the other. Fingers crossed. It hadn't been thrown out as it was at the furthest end away from the nest box, under the perch, so she must've laid it on the perch for it to fall into the soft landing. I have checked my automated lights in the shed, and they all correspond from day to night so there are no dark times where she may have been caught out of the box in the dark and unable to get back, so I'm really scratching my head as to why she laid outside. On the other hand, it is good to know that she has laid more eggs, so if this round isn't successful, I know that at least she can lay, she just needs a map bless her!
