Hi BudgiesBuddy nice to see you again My first pair had 7 eggs, hatched 2 but one died a couple of days after hatching. She is now on her second round with 6 eggs. My second pair had 6 on their first round and all were clear. Her second round she had 6 again, 2 were definitely clear, 1 hatched but 3 were dead in shell After this they will be rested and later returned to the flight.

Corie had a rough start to his year earlier despite the fact that he is an experienced show breeder. Were all four exhibition budgies?

The second pair, dad is a green spangle and mum is a normal grey. The chick is now showing a dark grey feather and black wing markings. Is there a chance I could get a grey spangle?
The first pair, mum is a normal blue and dad is a normal green, but their chick which is about 6 weeks old now, has a light sky blue body, white wings with light grey markings. Definitely not the colour I was expecting!

Then the first pair should have produced better results.
Did you pluck their vent feathers?
More will be clear from pictures, but it looks like that both chick one and chick two are getting some from mums and some from the genetics which your pairs are carrying in hidden form.

Mim is now on 7 eggs. No, I didn't trim the vent, and now I am kicking myself for it. It will be done next time I pair up. Lesson learnt BudgiesBuddy

Arnie is a little stunner! Being a complete novice and budgie mummy for only a year I really enjoy the breeding threads. What difference would trimming the vent make may I ask?

We've just got back from having 5 days away, and Mildred's chick is a different chick to what we last saw. It has grown so much and it's colours (well grey anyway!) have really popped out. Mim is now on 8 eggs but no chicks yet. Her first was laid on the 21st so should be here today or tomorrow. Due to her aggressiveness I did not number her eggs. She is a bit highly strung bless her, so I'm just leaving her to it. I will post more updates as and when.
