Nature, what more can you say? When you have just 2 chicks, there is always the likely chance, especially with 5 days between them, that the nutritional needs of the biggest will be more than the smallest, and being able to see whereas the young one hadn't yet opened his eyes, meant that he could get in their first when it came to feeding time and offer his beak before the young one. I will progress onwards, this won't be my only dead chick if I continue no doubt. Nature didn't help with the age gap IMO, as well as their first time, and I can't spend every waking hour with them to ensure it won't happen again.

Hi again everyone. Mildred is now on 6 eggs. The first is clear, the second is fertile, and I believe the 3rd is also clear and the 4th is fertile. I've not had a good look at the 5th and 6th, but as they are only a few days old I will have to wait a few more days before I will know. Brian and Mim's chick is huge! I reckon he goes down the gym when I'm not there, and pumps iron I will try and get some photos of him over the weekend.

Here is a photo of the chick, now nicknamed Arnie as he s so huge! He/she is now 21 days old. There is some blue coming out in the tail feathers And here is Mildred sitting pretty on her eggs. She has a bit of a dirty face due to eating her egg food.

I candled the eggs again today, and there are 4 which appear to be fertile, and 2 clear. Number 2 is due on the 14th May which is my dad's birthday, so regardless of male or female this one will be named Dave The mass inside this egg is quite big, almost filling the whole shell. Number 6 was laid only 5 days ago but is already showing a mass. Mildred is such a darling. When I put the finger drawer of food in she doesn't run off or open her beak as a protest, she just lets me carry on. I can even stroke her wings and chest. She lets me pick up the eggs and when I place them back she nestles them back underneath her. She is so cute.

Today we have reached a milestone. Mim's chick is 28 days old, and is so big!! He/she is a light blue as the feathers are now really starting to colour up. It is nearly as big as it's mum lol. I will get a photo of her tomorrow standing next to mum for comparison. Tomorrow I will put a gazunder in there also, as the chick keeps popping it's head out and I'm thinking it won't be long before it's ready to fledge the nest. I went and bought some shallow round dishes for water to be placed on the floor. The seed tray is always on the floor anyway and both will be away from the overhead perches. Mildred's first egg was clear, which I already knew, and the second is due any minute now, literally! I will of course update you as and when.

NEWS FLASH ************ NEWS FLASH ************ NEWS FLASH New chick born this morning from Mildred's clutch. I went into the bird house this morning and saw a small piece of broken shell, so I asked Mildred to move, and there it was. It must've only just hatched, so tiny! That was number 2 from her clutch. Number 1 is clear, 3 is fertile, 4 is clear, 5 and 6 are fertile. Number 2 happened to be a day or two late actually according to my records, so 3 could be imminent. Also, Mim's chick (Arnie) fledged the nest this morning Unfortunately he's decided to hide behind his gazunder rather than get inside it, silly thing. I popped him inside, he stayed for at least 30 seconds, and came straight out again. He's eating from finger drawers that I have provided on the floor, and I have a shallow dish of water. I managed to fit a water drinker on the cage front right at the bottom in case he doesn't like the dish. Brian likes it, he took a bath in it earlier
