What are your guys opinions on the brands of cages? I was looking at cages online to try to get a grasp on what my local pet store stocks (they stock both brands). Its either Prevue which is bigger and cheaper or Hagen which is a little smaller but nicer and more expensive. I am liking the idea of owning a flight cage (the small ones that can be put on a dresser, ect.) but yet a part of is drawn to the Hagen cages.

I can't speak for Hagen cages. I have a Prevue flight cage. I like it for the most part. Since I have just Basal it isn't too bad to clean the bottom bars of poop every day and then the actual waste tray. I know some here remove the bottom bars but for mine I think it would leave too much room at the bottom. I'm worried he might get out with the gap if the bottom bars weren't there.

Hezz, I have been noting the dimensions. I do want to get a big cage, but the Hagen cages are just so appealing to the eye, all modern and what not. Though they also remind me of the $30 hamster cages that last a while, but then suddenly plastic bits start breaking. I do see what you mean about the whole flight cage thing. That is a huge difference.
Rae, its good to hear that you like their flight cages. I've been looking on Amazon and there's so many options to the Prevue cages.

There are bigger Hagens, but as I said, other have them, I don't and never have, so really would be wrong to pass comment.

I have the Hagen Vision II (Large), which I bought about 2 years ago, the cage cost me £79.99, which I thought rather expensive at the time, but like yourself DreamerHorse, I loved the look of it, and it got great reviews, so I bought it, and I also bought the table to go with it, which cost me £60, and together they looked lovely. It was home to my 2 boys, but I always felt that come bedtime when they were locked in for the night, that they didn't really have a lot of room. Then I saw a cage one of our members ( skysmum) had bought and I loved it right away, Hezz has one similar, this is it:- www.littlepetwarehouse.co.uk/products/hamberley-single-metal-large-cage.htmlAnd as you can see, at at £79.99 there is a lot more for your money, my boys absolutely love it, and will happily go inside about 2 or 3pm in the afternoon and not come back out again, they just seem so contented to go in there and play and chill out, and there is ample room for them to have a fly. I still have my Vision cage, but now just keep it as a spare, or if I ever have to make a trip to the vet. I hope I haven't put you off the Hagen cage, that was not my intention, but comparing like for like, I would choose the flight cage every time.

As nice as that big cage is, I don't think I'd have anywhere to put it. xD I was planning on putting a cage on my dresser, where all my books are currently, and the Hagen Vison Medium M01 would just barely fit in between my jewelry box and tv. So I might get the M01 as a starter cage and if I ever have more room, I'd upgrade.
What is your view on the perches that come with these cages? I know, natural wood and soft rope, but they're advertising the perches as something good to exercise the feet.

The perches are fit for nothing but the bin DreamerHorse. Go natural wood every time, or rope, these are so much better for their little feet than the plastic rubbish that come with the cage.

Alrighty then. Trashbin it is (though my mom might get mad if I trash it so I'll just shove them in the back of the closet in the box). xD

I'm sure once you explained the reasons why to you Mum, she would be proud that you are taking responsibility for your little bird

I use the plastic perches for millet and toys. Put it in through the top so it hangs down and use the gaps in the perch to hold millet, grasses etc.

I need some clarification Hezz about what the expression 'flight' cage is, when the actual cage is very vertical? I have a Ferplast 6 which is 33" or 84 cm wide and what I would consider a 'flight' cage. I also prefer cages with horizontal bars which enables the budgies to climb more easily. Vertical ones they just slide down. Just my preference tho for my buds of course.

There is a couple of other consideration as well as the ones mentioned. How easy is the cage to clean and keep clean. Also what is the bars coated with. Up until Edward arrived neither Joey nor Whiskers tried to get the coating off. Edward does and has succeeded in a few places. The vision cages would have a positive answer to both the questions.

This is the version I have been eyeballing, and hoping Noah's Ark stocks.

Yet another reason why I should try to get a Hagen Vision cage, OP. ^.^ The paint would hopefully not peel and seems easy to clean. Now just how to work out in getting the base to fit in the bathroom sink. XD

I used the vision medium cage before I got the current one. There is no paint to come off the bars and it does not rust. I think you would have difficulty fitting one in the sink, but then there is always the bath or shower.
